Why is Racism a Problem?

on Sunday, April 7, 2013

Today racism has become a terrible issue for some of us. From racist manifestations in sports, to ban individuals just for being different. Is this truly what defines us? Why do we hate individuals that are different from us? For example, India is banning Pakistani and Lankans players from different sports, there are more examples in the world for racism.

Why humans hate other humans that look a bit different? the only difference between a black colored human and an Asian is the skin color. A black man or woman may have the same feelings or the same dreams as a white person or an Asian person. So there is not any kind of differences. The issue appears when the politics is involved. Actually, the politicians are the ones that create these limitations. It is known that white people has considered the black nation sub humans. Even today there are areas where black people are not welcomed.

There have been issues between India and Pakistan for many years. From banning Pakistani musicians and cricket players to more known Kashmir problem. There are many writers that are against racism in India and are against Indian laws for banning Pakistanis or Sri Lankan people from different activities. Also throughout time there were signs of racism. The best known example is the Holocaust and the colonial exploitation where black people were sold as merchandise. In the 19th century, a group of scientists come up with the theory that humans were divided into races. This theory and the verses of the Bible where Noah is blessing Canaan where excuses for slavery and racism in the history. Racism can be found anywhere in the world, from ethnical groups to sport or even arts. It is known the fact that Hitler didn’t want black people to participate in 1936 Olympics, or famous musicians restricted to perform in certain clubs or venues just because they were different. There are known cases of Louis Armstrong, Thelonious Monk or Michael Jackson.

We are now asking a simple question: Are people from other races really different? Are they really sub-humans like western Europeans thought about black people? There are plenty of great people that were black, Asian, white or even Amerindians. So racism must not be a part of our culture, a part of our life. Racism must be seen as a thing from our past, something that we should feel ashamed of. When we look at a black man, or a Chinese or any other race member we should see someone like us, someone who have dreams and aspirations like us. Racism must be banned from our activities instead of banning people that are different from us. When you see a talent think of how beneficial can be for human kind, don’t think of the skin color. Don’t be blinded by theories or religion propaganda, enjoy and be happy that someone like you is able to create something marvelous that you might benefit of one day.
