Interpersonal relationship is one of the most significant aspects in Islam. Good and strong interpersonal relationships among the people are key for promoting harmony and unity in any society that is the reason why Islam pay so much attention on building good interpersonal relationships among the Muslims. Now, those looking to learn Islam would be interested in knowing that what type properties are required to build and maintain the good & health interpersonal relationships among the Muslims.

Some qualities that need to be present in order to build good interpersonal relations include; Ikhlas, honesty, openness, personal warmth, integrity, socialization, caring, well wishing, Dua, compassion, respect, helpfulness, forgiveness, truthfulness, gentleness as well as trustworthiness. These are some qualities and characteristics that should be present in order to build and maintain the strong interpersonal relationships among the Muslims. Similarly, there are also some supplement qualities and traits that can also strengthen the interpersonal relations in a Muslim society.

The supplement traits and characteristics include Courtesy, cheerful and open countenance, kindness, easygoing attitude, friendliness, generosity, helpfulness, tolerance, gift giving habits, accommodation, open and clear communication, responsibility, keeping promises, love and affection for other Muslims as well as meeting obligations. But, unfortunately most of the Muslims, instead of developing and focusing on these traits give too much attention of the less important aspects like more Nafl or Dhikar etc. and such Muslims show too much contempt and anger toward the Muslims who fall a bit short of idealism.

Now, those looking to learn Islam, would also be interested in knowing that what type of traits and characteristics are undesirable and need to be avoided. Here is a brief account of some traits that should be avoided in order to build and maintain the strong and good interpersonal relationships among the Muslims. The traits include; Hasad i.e Jealousy, Bughdh i.e Hate, Bukhl i.e Miserliness, Ghaibah i.e backbiting, Kibr i.e arrogance and conceit, cheating, lying, calling names, deception, faultfinding, taunting, trustworthiness lack, manipulation as well as dependability lack. These are some qualities or habits that are immensely dangerous for Muslim society as well as interpersonal relationships.

In addition to above mentioned qualities and characteristics, there are also some traits and qualities that may result in the weakness of interpersonal relationships. These traits include; openness lack, clear communication lack, exploitation, controlling behavior and dominating, contempt, promises break, harshness, rudeness, roughness, irritability, impatience, making fun, cultural and linguistic chauvinism, slavish worship, power arrogance, status and wealth or other like things etc. This was a brief account of a few traits and characteristics that need to be avoided at any cost in order to build and maintain strong interpersonal relationships among the Muslims to strengthen the society. But, unfortunately the Muslims are not paying proper attention on this teaching of Islam.
