How Do We See Our Revolution?

After one year and a half since the outbreak of the glorious revolution of the 25^th of January a lot has happened. I have discussed most of it in my posts. But I didn’t discuss a very important thing, how do different people view the revolution and their opinion in it. I thought it would make an excellent topic to talk about until the 2^nd round is over of the Egyptian Presidential Elections.

First of all the revolution was made by the hands of the youth of Egypt, this is why a big percentage of the youth who fall in the age group of 18-30 will be with the revolution and supporters of it. This doesn’t mean that there are youth who are against it, but almost 85% of the age group of 18-30 is supporters of the revolution. Most of the youth who are supportive of the revolution have voted for either Mohamed Morsi, if they are supporters of the Islamic party or Hamden Sabahy or Abo el Fetouh.

Then there are people who feel that things were better off without all of it, believe it or not, despite the world’s agreement on the necessity of this revolution, but in Egypt there are people who think that it is a bad thing that shouldn’t have happened and that things were settled and calm before the revolution and they want it to stay that way. Most of these people are in the age group of 40+, the older generation, they got used to how things are and they didn’t see a need for change, especially after the few months after the revolution and the increase in crimes because of the absence of security and the police. This aggravated their beliefs that the revolution only brought bad things upon the country. They are most likely to have voted for Ahmed Shafiq or Amr Moussa to bring back the old regime that they felt comfortable with.

Then there are those who believe in the conspiracy theory, they actually believe that this whole revolution was not done by the Egyptians. They believe that the “West” or especially the USA is responsible for all the turmoil that happened, not only that but some of them accuse Iran, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, USA, China and Russia. This is ridiculous, after all the martyrs who have died and gave their life for their country and for us to have the freedom of choice to go to the elections and choose our own president, they say that in fact, it wasn’t an Egyptian revolution.

It is only normal that people have different views, and no matter how much I agree or disagree with them, everyone is entitled for his own opinion.
