What does Shariah mean and where did it come from?

on Saturday, June 2, 2012

Everyday Americans and even people from all other countries of the world argue about Shariah law that it is barbaric and against freedom and promotes oppression of women etc. A pathetic situation herein is that there even are some Muslims who do not mind the abolishment of Shariah law and would love democracy to rule the entire nation. This is a very dangerous situation for the Muslims, because by acknowledging such a fact they have in fact committed an act of Kufr (disobedience).

A common misconception of non Muslims is that Shariah law is unfair, as it gives more rights to the Muslims and less number of rights to the Non Muslims at large. They further continue to say that Shariah limits an individual free choice or thinking and promoted strict law and order on every person in the country. The most important fact which needs to be considered here is about the definition of Shariah law, what does it actually mean and what are its benefits? Shariah law could be defined in simple terms and in a brief manner as the law of God for the people.

Concerning every human being, whether she is a Muslim or not, an atheist or not, the common fact which they would also agree about is that when we hire a servant at home and pay them a monthly wage for dedicating their work for us, it’s obvious that they would expect that servant to obey them at all times. For instance if the servant disagrees and says, “I cannot wash the clothes because I have nail polish on my finger nails!” The definite reaction of the landlord would be, “Get out!”, or if he is kind-hearted he may say to take it off and wash the clothes, right? This is with regards to a human being who merely works for another human being.

However we are all the descendents of one common ancestor, i.e. Adam and Eve, which were in turn created by the Supreme Being, The Creator of the heavens and the earth. Therefore at the end every person belongs to God, who knows everything in His infinite knowledge, and as a result we are obliged to follow and do what Our Creator wants us to do. The reason being is similar to the previous example of the servant but in this case Our Creator has more Power over us than in the case of the servant who only depends on our money.

Regarding democracy, Shariah law is also democratic, but when we compare it to the “democracy” that is implemented in the world today there would certainly be differences. This is because democracy as its defined is government of the people, by the people and for the people. Shariah law is also of the people, by the people and for the people. Therefore where does the different lie? The difference is in the fact that democracy is not actually following these concepts in totality and has various cheating and other bad actions that is performed under the name of “democracy”, such as bribes, illegal votes, brain washing etc. It is due to this reason that Shariah law is the best and most suitable system of government for every nation to prosper in today’s world!
