After discussing a lot of achievements happened in the time of Omar Ebn Al Khattab, which enriched the Muslim culture and spread the Muslim language and traditions throughout the world, now I would like to tell you different situations that show how Omar Ebn Al Khattab was care about Muslims and their lives. It is a fact that Muslims these days can not find a man who facilitate their lives and work for their sake not for his own sake. The whole world is missing a man who can pay enough attention to how the poor are living and how the weak can find their rights without facing threats.
Everyday Omar Ebn Al Khattab used to remember a Hadith said by the Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him with the meaning “A man who is given the responsibility of Muslims and doesn’t work hard or pay enough efforts, he won’t be in Al Janna with them”. This Hadith was Omar’s guide and he was always afraid of not paying enough efforts to solve different Islamic issues, which encouraged him to work harder and harder.
It is known that Omar never had enough sleep since he became a Caliph and he used to say “If I slept at night, I will be wasting the rights of Allah and if I slept in day time, I will waste the rights of Muslims”, so he used to sleep half an hour after Al Zohr prayer and another hour at night, so that he can continue with his work.
He also used to walk in the streets in day time and go to the markets in order to make sure all the needed goods are available and the prices are affordable. When he find something missing in the markets, he buy it from his own money and give it to those who need it.
One day Omar was in a stable cleaning horses and camels himself, while a group of leaders came from Iraq among them a man called Al Ahnaf Ebn Al Kays. When Omar saw the group he asked AL Ahnaf to take off his rope and come to help Omar with cleaning the camels that will be given to the poor, so a man from the group said “O Caliph, you can order a servant to clean the camels instead of you”, so Omar replied “don’t you know that when a man is in charge for Muslims, this means that he is their servant?!” How beautiful is the feeling of having a ruler who consider himself your servant and work hard to guarantee a honored life for you.
