Omar Ebn Al Khattab is the man who established a strong Muslim world with the Prophet Mohammed and Abu Bakr Al Sedik. I want to say to all Westerners doubting Omar Ebn Al Khattab was fair and imposed justice in the world, Omar was like the king of kings and Western countries knew him and his capabilities very well, but at the same time they knew his mercy and his forgiveness.
There is something important needs to be illustrated; being modest does not mean humiliation or weakness, but Omar Ebn Al Khattab maintained his strength besides his modest. We never forget his speech when he talked to Muslims and said that his responsibilities as a Caliph weakened him, but he will always be strong with those who steal rights and will always be a shield for Islam and Muslims.
Chastity is a meaning that we all miss these days. The toughness of life and greed that spread between the people, were the mean reasons behind the elimination of this great virtue, but if we look back to the early ages of Islam, we will see how tough was the life of Muslims, but they never forgot chastity.
Sayedna Omar’s chastity was crystal clear and here are some situations that illustrate this. One day Omar Ebn Al Khattab decided to dedicate some money from Muslim funds to poor Christians and Jews living in Muslim lands, and he appointed a Christian man to give every non Muslim the money dedicated to him. The Christian man gave Omar a rope as a present, so Omar asked him “is this rope from your own money or from the money dedicated to Christians and Jews?” the man replied “it is from my money, except the threat as it was bought from the money dedicated to non Muslims”. Sayedna Omar got angry and said ” I will not accept your present unless it is from your pure money, or you tell me where the thread is, so I can remove it”.
Another situation was when the Muslim army opened Iraq and other countries that was controlled by Kesra and Cesar. Palaces there were very famous of gold and precious stuff, so when these places were conquered, the treasures were brought to Al Madina. The Muslim soldiers put the treasures in Al Masjid and no guards were protecting it there. When Omar arrived and saw the treasures, he found that there were small pieces of gold and other precious staff, so he said to Aly Ebn Abi Taleb “our soldiers are honest”, so sayedna Aly replied “you have chastity, so your people learned it from you”. Can we see how a ruler can affect his people and add to their lives precious values?! I hope the West would learn.
