The concept of Tawheed plays a significant role in the lives of every person adult or child, because of its importance that it has towards the purpose of our lives. This is the reason why when we learn Islam for kids its essential to ensure that we provide them with this knowledge about Tawheed which is basically what “Laa ilaaha illa-Allaa” is about. Due to the importance and big meaning of this single word, the scholars have sub divided the concept of Tawheed into three main categories, in order to make it easier for people and children alike to grasp this huge and very important aspect and implement it in our lives.
The first category of Tawheed is called,Tawheed Al-Ruboobiyah, which implies about the Oneness and the Uniqueness of Allah in terms of Lordship, being the Lord, the Creator, the Provider, the Sustainer, the One Who arranges the affairs of His creation. The second category of Tawheed is called Tawheed Al-Uloohiyaah that is concerned with the fact that Allah is the Only One Who is worthy of worship. The last category of Tawheed is known as Tawheed Al-Asmaa’ was-Sifaat and it defines the Oneness and Uniqueness of Allaah in terms of His Names and Attributes.
Every form of Shirk (polytheism) or ascribing partners to Allah has to be in one of these three categories and similarly every group of people on Earth who have deviated from the truth, they have deviated from the understanding of one of these three categories. Either they misunderstood the Lordship of Allah or they misunderstood the fact that Allah is the one deserving of worship or they misunderstood the Names and Attributes of Allah.
There are a number of evidences from the Qur’an which deal with each one of these particular categories. For Example, Tawheed Al-Ruboobiyah, as soon as the Muslims recite Surah Faatihah during prayer they say the words, “Alhamdulillaahi Rabbil ‘aalameen…” entails that we testify for Tawheed Al-Ruboobiyah. This is because of the word ‘Rabb’ which basically could be translated to English to be ‘Lord.’ It comes from ‘Yurabbee’/ ‘Tarbiyah’ which are like taking care, or in other words the care-taking of those who are under your responsibility.
In the sense related to Allah, then it is Allah being the One Who takes care of His creation in terms of giving them life, giving them sustenance and giving them everything that they have, including their breath and then inevitably taking away their lives when the time comes and then causing them to live in this life in between this dunya and hereafter, then causing them to be resurrected on the day of resurrection, then being judged, then permitting them to jannah or jahannam. All this falls under the Ruboobiyah of Allaah subhaanahu wa ta’alaa and none shares this particular quality with Allah.
Allah gave this particular understanding of how to identify the True God through the Ruboobiyah because we could recognize Allah through the Ruboobiyah, Uloohiyah, and Asmaa’ wa Sifaat as well. This can be found when we read Surah Al Furqan verse 3 which says, “But they have taken besides Him gods which create nothing, while they are created, and possess not for themselves any harm or benefit and possess not [power to cause] death or life or resurrection”
Therefore it’s clear that understanding and when we learn Islam for kids its very essential for us to precisely implement Tawheed in all its categories in our lives.
