The 13th Annual Quran Recitation Competition in Japan was held at the Arabic Islamic Institute, Tokyo on Monday December 31, 2012.

The event started at 1:30pm and ended at 1am (1st Jan 2013). This event was organized by Japan Islamic Trust, Masjid Otsuka, with the cooperation of the Arabic Islamic Institute, Tokyo, and was sponsored by The Holy Quran Memorization Organization, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (بجدة لهيئة العالمية لتحفيظ القرآن الكريم ا رابطة العالم الإسلامي) along with some local businesses.

The basic aim of the competition was to strengthen the link among the Muslim community members in Japan with the Quran, to help increase the knowledge of, and love for the Quran, to help develop interest in the Quran recitation, to motivate memorizing, reciting and reviewing Quran, and to help develop skills in reading and reciting the Quran, and invite Muslims to engage in a great religious activity on the new year`s eve.

Although, the event has been taking place for the past 13 years, however, the number of participants this year, was incredibly huge. More than 134 children participated in the competition.  Last year, there were around 80 participants from all over Japan.

The Chief Guest of this mega event was the Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Japan, Dr. Abdulaziz A Turkistani. . He lauded the efforts made by the kids and their parents and teachers to memorize Quran.  He further expressed the hope that more and more children will participate in the competition in the coming years.

Japan Islamic Trust (JIT) plans to hold even bigger events in the future as well.

One flabbergasting miracle of the Quran is that it has stated uncountable scientific facts which the science itself quite lately. Hence, this series of my writings will be highlighting some facts stated by the Holy Quran fourteen hundred years ago.

‘Big Bang Theory’ Explained By Quran

Scientists have explained the origination of this universe by an accepted phenomenon widely known as the ‘Big Bang’. This theory has been supported by astronomers and astrophysicists after gathering experimental and observational data over a long period. According to this theory, the entire universe was a big mass or ‘Big Bang’, Primary Nebula. Later, there was a ‘Big Bang’ or Secondary Separation resulting in the formation of galaxies which then divided into planets, asteroids, stars, moons and the sun. This universe was created with remarkable precision and the chances of it occurring by ‘chance’ are zero.

The holy Quran explains this exact origin of the universe in the following verse. “Don’t the nonbelievers realize that the earth and heavens were joined together (as a Unit of Creation), before We made them asunder (as they are)?” [Al-Quran 21:30]

One must be amazed at how a book revealed fourteen hundred years ago could have stated such an astounding fact, which the astronomers were only able to discover recently. Hence, this astounding similarity between Quran and the Big Bang Theory makes it crystal clear that the holy Quran cannot be written by any man himself and is indeed a book from Allah.

Proof of the Gaseous mass of the universe before its creation

Scientists further say that the celestial matter was in the form of gaseous matter before these galaxies were created in this universe. Hence, precisely, there were only gaseous matter or clouds to be found before the galaxies were made. To describe this gaseous form, the word smoke can be more appropriate. Quran uses the word dhukhan meaning smoke for the state of the universe before it was created. “Furthermore, He (Allah) composed in His design the sky, which had been Smoke (previously): He said to it (sky) and to the earth: ‘Come ye together, either willingly or unwillingly.’ They said: ‘We come (Together), in willing obedience.’ (Quran 41:11)

Once again, it can be clearly seen that the origin of the creation of the universe was not known to the Arabs when Quran was revealed making it even more obvious that it cannot have been written by any human being. Hence, Quran indeed is the true word of Allah sent to humans for their guidance. To this date, it remains in its purest and authentic form and has withstood all the efforts directed to distort it.

Segala Puji Bagi Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala yang atas berkah rahmat dan hidayah Nya saya dapat menyusun satu dua buah kata, yang insya Allah dan semoga Allah Subhanahu Wat’aala menghendaki dapat memberikan manfaat kepada setiap pembaca website ini.

Catatan Al Quran dalam kehidupan saya mulai dengan pembahasan suratul Fatihah dengan mengikuti aturan-aturan yang telah ditetapkan serta diamalkan oleh sebagian besar ulama’. Semoga nantinya catatan ini bisa terselesaikan dengan baik dan benar dengan mendapatkan bimbingan dari Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala dan bukannya menuruti kemauan dan ambisi diri pribadi.

Induk Dari Semua Isi Al Quran adalah Suratul Faatihah atau yang jika diterjemahkan kedalam bahasa Indonesia adalah Pembukaan, merupakan satu-satunya surah yang diturunkan atau diwahyukan langsung dengan lengkap dibanding surah-surah yang lain didalam Al Quran.

Menurut pendapat beberapa ulama, Surat inilah yang disebutkan tujuh ayat yang berulang ulang sebagaimana dijelaskan dalam surah al Hijr ayat 87 : “Sesungguhnya Kami telah berikan kepadamu tujuh ayat yang dibaca berulang-ulang dan Al Quran yang agung”, dengan alasan oleh karena sering sekali dibaca berulang ulang pada saat melaksanakan ibadah shalat.

Berbeda dengan sebagaimana lazimnya surah – surah lainnya dalam Al Quran yang penamaannya seringkali mengambil satu kata dari ayat yang terkandung didalamnya, Nama Al Faatihah sama sekali tidak tercantum baik tersirat maupun tersurat didalam ayat – ayatnya. Salah satu alasan surah ini disebut Al Fatihah adalah karena dengan surat inilah dibuka serta dimulainya Al Quran. Al Fatihah seringkali juga Dinamakan Ummul Quran atau induk dari Al Quran atau Ummul Kitab yang berarti induk dari Al Kitab karena surah Al Fatihah merupakan induk dari semua isi Al Quran.

Surat Al Fatihah mengandung unsur-unsur pokok yang secara tersirat mencerminkan pada keseluruhan isi dari ayat-ayat Al Quran. Dinyatakan dengan cukup tegas didalam surah Al Fatihah bahwa segala puja dan puji serta ucapan syukur atas semua nikmat yang kita rasakan adalah hanya bagi Allah, karena Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala adalah Sang Pencipta dan sumber dari segala sumber nikmat yang terdapat di alam semesta ini.

Didalam Surah Al Fatihah juga dijelaskan secara tersurat bahwa segala sesuatu yang dilihat oleh seseorang baik dalam dirinya sendiri ataupun di alam semesta adalah bersumber dari Allah, karena Allah-lah Yang Maha Kuasa di alam semesta ini.

Didalam surat Al Faatihah juga telah dinyatakan dengan isyarat dan ditegaskan dengan lengkapi pada ayat ke-5, yaitu : Iyyaaka na’budu wa iyyaka nasta’iin (hanya Engkau-lah yang kami sembah, dan hanya kepada Engkau-lah kami mohon pertolongan). Ini adalah satu ikrar atau pengakuan akan ketauhidan yang merupakan ajaran paling pokok didalam Agama Islam yakni dengan meng-Esakan Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala. Karena segala sesuatu yang ada di alam semesta ini tunduk serta patuh baik dengan terpaksa maupun suka rela kepada kebesaran-Nya sembari mengharap nikmat dan takut akan siksaan-Nya.

Dalam hal ini terdapat kandungan arti bahwa janji Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala untuk memberikan pahala terhadap setiap perbuatan yang baik serta ancaman terhadap setiap perbuatan yang buruk pastilah terlaksana. Oleh karenanya setiap hamba haruslah kemudian melaksanakan Ibadah dengan semata-mata ditujukan hanya kepada Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala.

Jalan guna untuk memperoleh kebahagiaan dunia dan akherat serta bagaimanakah seharusnya seorang hamba Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala menempuh jalan itu telah dijelaskan secara tersurat didalam setiap surah dalam ayat-Nya untuk dipikirkan dan diamalkan dengan penuh keikhlasan guna untuk mendapatkan keselamatan dan kebahagiaan dunia – akhirat, baik yang mengenai kepercayaan maupun akhlak, hukum-hukum dan pelajaran.

Perincian dari hal tersebut akan  dengan jelas dapat kita baca didalam ayat-ayat Al Quran pada surat lain yang insya Allah akan dibahas pada catatan selanjutnya.

Tidak diragukan lagi bahwasanya Al Quran adalah kitab yang sempurna kalimatnya, indah serta sarat akan makna dalam kehidupan ini. Sebuah kitab yang tidak diragukan kebenarannya yang datang Nya dari Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala pemilik Alam semesta ini.

Al Quran adalah sebuah kitab yang memberikan banyak pelajaran kepada manusia guna untuk menjalani kehidupan di dunia ini dengan baik agar nantinya dapat kembali dan mendapat tempat yang baik pula di sisi Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala.  Sebagai kitab yang memang diturunkan guna untuk memberikan pelajaran kepada hamba – hamba Nya , maka pantas dan nyatalah kemudian Al Quran itu untuk dijadikan sebagai tolak ukur akan segala tingkah laku kita dalam menjalani kehidupan.

Daripadanya (al Quran) manusia dapat mengambil pelajaran yang berupa peringatan serta kabar gembira yang mana sebagian besar ayat – ayat Al Quran dapatlah kita lihat dan atau kita buktikan keberadaannya di alam semesta ini.

Beberapa contoh yang dapat kita ambil sebagai pelajaran adalah manakala kita menjalani kehidupan ini sesuai dengan tata aturan yang telah ditetap oleh Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala didalam kitab Nya (al quran) maka Insya Allah kita akan senantiasa memperoleh berbagai kemudahan serta ketenangan baik secara lahiriah maupun bathiniah.

Namun lain daripada itu jikalau kita telah banyak melenceng jauh dari pada aturan aturan yang telah ditetapkan oleh Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala didalam Al Quran, maka bukan mustahil dan atau tidak dapat dipungkiri adanya peringatan – peringatan akan terus dan terus terjadi, hingga manusia itu kembali kepada jalan yang telah di Ridhai Nya.

Tidak sedikit kisah – kisah didalam Al Quran yang menceritakan dan atau mengisahkan tentang perjuangan para Nabi dan Rasul Nya yang menyampaikan peringatan namun kemudian tidak dihiraukan oleh umatnya maka datanglah pertolongan Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala dengan bala bantuan yang menghancurkan setiap hamba Nya yang telah melenceng jauh daripada aturan – aturan yang telah ditetapkan oleh Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala.

Sebut saja satu kisah dalam Al Quran yang mengisahkan tentang perjuangan Nabi Musa As dan Harun As yang telah diutus oleh Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala kepada penguasa Zalim yang bernama “Fir’aun” dengan membawa bukti – bukti yang nyata namun kemudian tetap juga di ingkari.

Maka tak ayal lagi kehancuranlah yang datang kepada Fir’aun dan para pemuka kaumnya yang sombong lagi keras kepala yang tidak juga mengindahkan peringatan dan tidak mau menerima bukti yang nyata dari Allah Subhanahu Wata’ala melalui perantaraan nabi dan Rasul Nya.

Hal ini dijelaskan didalam Al Quran Surah AL Qashash Ayat 36 – 41 yang dalam bahasa indonesianya kurang lebih

: “Maka tatkala Musa datang kepada mereka dengan (membawa) mukjizat- mukjizat Kami yang nyata, mereka berkata: “Ini tidak lain hanyalah sihir yang dibuat-buat dan kami belum pernah mendengar (seruan yang seperti) ini pada nenek moyang kami dahulu.

Musa menjawab: “Tuhanku lebih mengetahui orang yang (patut) membawa petunjuk dari sisi-Nya dan siapa yang akan mendapat kesudahan (yang baik) di negeri akhirat. Sesungguhnya tidaklah akan mendapat kemenangan orang-orang yang zalim “

Dan berkata Fir’aun: “Hai pembesar kaumku, aku tidak mengetahui tuhan bagimu selain aku. Maka bakarlah hai Haman untukku tanah liat kemudian buatkanlah untukku bangunan yang tinggi supaya aku dapat naik melihat Tuhan Musa, dan sesungguhnya aku benar-benar yakin bahwa dia termasuk orang-orang pendusta. dan berlaku angkuhlah Fir’aun dan bala tentaranya di bumi tanpa alasan yang benar dan mereka menyangka bahwa mereka tidak akan dikembalikan kepada Kami.

Maka Kami hukumlah Fir’aun dan bala tentaranya, lalu Kami lemparkan mereka ke dalam laut. Maka lihatlah bagaimana akibat orang-orang yang zalim.”

Semoga sedikit penggalan kisah musa dan fir’aun diatas dapat memberikan kita pelajaran dan membuka mata serta hati kita untuk lebih jeli dan mawas diri melihat segala tanda – tanda kekuasaan Allah Subhanahu Wat’ala, dilangit dan dibumi serta pada diri kita sendiri.

Amongst the holy revelations, perhaps none has received greater eminence and attention than the tomes of The Holy and Magnificent Quran and the Bible. They are believed to be both endowed upon mankind by Almighty God himself as a means of guidance for man and the regulation of his conduct. Both have a vast and densely escalated counts of followers to its name, i.e. the Muslims are associated with Quran, while Christians believe in the bible. The question here is as to which book is the true manual to follow? Is it Quran or Bible that can guide all in a manner that is consistent with science and everyday occurrences?

We, as Muslims, believe that the Holy Christ (Hazrat Eesa) was a messenger of Allah and the Bible was the scripture revealed and endowed upon his nation from Allah. However, regrettably the Bible has been diluted by man ever since its conception and over the centuries, has become infested with many a number of inaccuracies and man-made points and information. The Old Testament is a moniker given to the Hebrew texted book of old that sports Jewish origins. It is more popularly referred to as the Torah, and at present a number of significant changes and transitions in information can be found in the Old Testament and the New Testament, the Gospel. The Bible is present in a number of Languages, so that is used as a basis for the dubious nature of the tome present to us at the moment. However, the English version of the book is also rife with flaws and inaccuracies in knowledge, such as the fact that the World is flat. We all know now that the earth is spherical and this is just a minor mistake in the context of the Bible. Moreover, the volume of the Bible has also been tampered with, as is evident from the fact that the Catholic Bible contains 73 books as opposed by the Protestant Bible, which contains 66 books.

The Quran is a different book. It is the book revealed to Prophet Muhammad and is the book of guidance bestowed upon the Muslims. The word Quran means to recite and it has been done so effectively throughout the ages. The Quran has managed to keep it free from the taint of dilution and is, up till now, free from any inaccuracy and false information. The authenticity of the Quran has been secured due to the fact that it is present in only one language, and that is the dialect of Arabic. It has been and is continuing to be recited by billions of Muslims all across the world on a daily basis. Another factor that has contributed to the integrity of Islam is the one pertaining to the memorization of the Quran by Muslims in different eras or periods. These “Hafiz-e-Quran” have played a major role in maintaining the genuine authenticity of Quran throughout the ages. The Quran is the revelation of Allah towards Prophet Muhammad, and it is clearly mentioned in the Holy Quran.

“Now this Qur’an could not possibly have been devised by anyone save God: nay indeed, it confirms the truth of whatever remains (of earlier revelations) and clearly spells out the revelation (which comes) – let there be no doubt about it – from the Sustainer of all the worlds.” Surah Yunus, 10 :37-38

The Quran is also inclusive of many information that has immense scientific value and significance when compared to the scientific findings at present such as the formation of the embryo in the womb of the mother (Surah 98), deep seas partitions, waters that don’t mix, The phenomenon of Clouds and how they cause raining, how lightening is created through crystals of ice, the planets, stars, moons and their orbiting motions as well as the prospect of space travel (Surah 55:33). These major findings were made by the Quran long before the dawn of Science itself. So, Quran is also effective from a scientific and knowledge based perspective.

More so, the Quran has been the recipient of protection, in terms of integrity and authenticity, from Allah the Almighty as is evident from the following Surah from the Holy Quran:

“Behold, it is We Ourselves who have bestowed from on high, step by step, this reminder: and, behold, it is We who shall truly guard it ( from all corruption)” Surah Al – Hijr, 15:9.

So, in all likelihood and outcomes, Quran emerges as the superior and more genuine guide book when compared to the Bible.

The Quran is a religious text for the Muslims. It is considered holy and a book that was sent by God to his people through the Prophet Muhammad. The book consists of religious teachings for Muslims and explains in depth the expectations of God for his people. Through the Quran, Allah sends his message to Muslims. The Islamic religions such as the Sheikhs and the Imams use the book in the mosque while teaching Muslims. The book forms a fundamental pillar of the practices that Muslims undergo.

Why would one think of burning the Quran or any other religious text that is considered holy? Surely, even if Christianity, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism or Islam are not a part of your belief system, it would be more than uncivilized to just sit and plot the burning of such a book. Even if you feel that what others worship is not right, the worst thing you can do is to take what they consider holy and burn it. Did Jesus burn the bible or the Quran? What of the prophet Muhammad, did he hate the Christians? Surely, Jesus did not burn the Quran, and neither did the Prophet Muhammad harbor hatred for other people and religious leaders.

As a Christian, Buddhist, Hindi or a Jew, why would you burn a religious book? Remember, it is only those who are insane – the crazy people – who would take such a barbaric action as burning the Quran. The best thing you can do, if you do not think Islam is up to your taste, is to refrain. Being loving, and showing concern for other religions or appreciating those with whom you do not share the same background, religious ideology, or political views is the best thing to do. It is high time people should learn to appreciate the diversity of the people of the world. Tolerate other religions, praise their cultural practices and do not be a bigot.

Governments that do not support religious interference have found a number of people who are guilty of the mere planning of burning the Quran. Those who have taken part in such activities have earned a good ticket to jail. Some have been sentenced for life. You do not want to fall victim to this fate. A lady in America, and in another instance in Pakistan, just but to mention a few, will serve a term in jail, just because they wanted to burn the Quran. How can you burn a book that advocates for holiness, service, and worship to God in truth and honesty?

Why would you burn the Quran when it gives guidance to humanity on how we can live in harmony with others? The same Quran that you plan to burn is the book that teaches people to act in compassionate ways. The Islamic religion is one of the foremost religions that teaches people how they can take care of the needy in society. The widows, the poor, the homeless, the hungry, the children, the sick, and every other person who falls into this category: The Quran insists that they should be assisted.

Muslims hold a very prominent position in Islam and women are considered as very noble and lofty. Indeed, the Muslim woman is the primary lecturer in the edifice of a righteous society. Women are the most respectable and honored personality in Islam.

In Islam, men and women are considered equally in every aspect of life but when we talk about rights, men and women are given different rights. Women rights according to Quran and Islam have been discussed in various books and in Quran, Surah Nisa. Surah Nisa is only surah in which each and every verse is related to women. In other Surahs of Quran, women are also discussed.

A man came to Allah’s Messenger and said: O Messenger of Allah! Who from amongst mankind warrants the best companionship from me? He replied: “Your mother.” The man asked: Then who? So he replied: “Your mother”. The man then asked: Then who? So the Prophet replied again: “Your mother.” The man then asked: then who? So he replied: “Then your father.” So this necessitates that the mother is given three times the likes of kindness and good treatment as the father. [2]

Some of the Women rights according to Quran and Islam are discussed below:

1. Education

The Messenger of Allah (p.b.u.h.) once said:

“Acquiring knowledge is compulsory for every Muslim. (At-Tabarani)

This description applies equally to men and women. It is the right of every Muslim woman to acquire and strive for knowledge. Throughout Islamic history, men and women both earned respect as scholars and teachers of the Faith. The books of Rijal (Reporters of Hadith) contain the names of many prominent women, beginning with Aishah and Hafsah.

2. The Right to Own Wealth and Property

A woman possesses the right to keep her property or wealth, whether earned or inherited and she has the right to spend it according to her wish.

The Holy Quran says:

“And wish not for the things in which Allah has made some of you excel the others. For men there is reward for what they have earned, (and likewise) for women there is reward for what they have earned, and ask Allah of His Bounty. Surely, Allah is Ever All-Knower of everything.” (V. 4:32)

There is no constraint in Islamic law that says a woman cannot work or cannot be a professional. Women rights according to Quran and Islam state that women are completely given freedom to work outside and earn money and help her husband.

3. Freedom to Choose Her Husband

In Islam, a woman is given complete authority and the right to choose her life partner or refuse or reject her parents’ proposal.

A woman named Khansa Bint-e-Khidam once came to the Prophet and complained:

“My father has forced me to marry my cousin in order to raise his own status (in the eyes of the people).” The Prophet told her that she was free to dissolve this marriage and choose whomever she wished to marry. She replied, “I accept my father’s choice, but my aim was to let the women know that fathers have no right to interfere in the marriage.” (Ahmad, Nasa’i and Ibn-e-Majah)

Islam is a beautiful religion to every Muslim. Islam guides us in every aspect of life. Islam teaches to live in peace, harmony and simplicity. The importance of Islam is described in the light of the Holy Qur’an and Hadith. Islam gives us the teaching of Hadith and Sunnah which is briefly described in the Qur’an Majeed. The relationship between the Qur’an, Hadith and Islam is very complex as they are interconnected. Islam is the only religion where different Hadith are given to the Muslims. It guides the Muslims to choose the right path in their life. If any problem arises, the Qur’an is the best source of guiding them.

The Qur’an was revealed to the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) by the Almighty Allah, and Allah chose Hazrat Gibrael to send down this revelation in the mid of 610 AD to 632 AD, and it is the last book of Allah which is completed and protected by Allah for the Muslims. It has 144 chapters known as surahs and verses, and the message of Allah is explained in the Holy Qur’an in a very simple language. This book gives us the message of peace and love for others. The Qur’an is a divine book for every Muslim. This book is basically the constitution of the Muslim society. It is a complete book for the Muslims where all the laws of Islam are described and the solutions to problems related to everyday life are discussed. The Qur’an helps in building up the Islamic society.

Every Muslim, having faith in Islam, recites the Qur’an daily and follows its principle in their day-to-day life.  Muslims obey the teaching of Muhammad, the God’s messenger. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) has always asked the Muslims to recite the Holy Qur’an with translation as it contains all the teaching of Islam.

Through Hadith, one can lead a life according to the teachings of Islam, as Hadith are the sayings of the Holy Prophet (SAW). The Qur’an, Hadith and Islam, all are the same but differ in some respect and have individual importance.

As Allah has said:

“And obey Allah and the Messenger that you may obtain mercy” (Surah Aal-Imran: 132)

In another verse, Allah says:

And how do we fulfill this obligation if not by observing what he said and did so that we may obey and follow these instructions? And are not the Hadith the collection of what the Prophet (SAW) said and did? Thus if it is compulsory for us to obey the Prophet (SAW), it is necessary for us to look at the Hadith so we may know WHAT it is we are supposed to be obeying, n’est-ce pas? “He who obeys the Messenger has indeed obeyed Allah,” (An-Nisa: 80)

Definition of Hadith by the scholar:

The Hadith are mainly a collection of rituals, sayings, and rulings by scholars claimed to be from the Prophet Mohammed that was recorded hundreds of years after his death. Mainstream Muslims typically accept the Hadith as another religious text paired with the Quran. However, the Quran is explicit in the fact that it was to be the final and complete text of God.

“The Qur’an contains infinitely more precise details [than many scientific discoveries today] which are directly related to facts discovered by modern science: these are what exercise a magnetic attraction for today’s scientists. It is not faith in Islam that first guided my steps, but simple research for the truth. [What led me to this conviction was the fact that it would be unthinkable] for a man of Muhammad’s (pbuh) time to have been the author of such statements on account of the state of knowledge in his days.”

Dr. Maurice Bucaille, an eminent medical scientist and a member of the French Academy of Medicine. He is the author of the book entitled “The Bible, The Qur’an and Science.”

Many people debate about science and religion. How they fit together. Does one discredit the other? Should they be separate from one another? Or does God use science to help us? Does God reveal Himself to us through science? Muslims surely believe this. Science was used in the Qur’an, by a way of verifying everything the prophets said. It gives man the chance to see for himself that which God has created. God encourages man to use a scientific approach in the Qur’an. Here are some examples Muslims were given by God to prove science and religion go hand in hand and should not be separate;

” Men who celebrate the praises of Allah, standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and contemplate the (wonders of) creation in the heavens and the earth, (With the thought): “Our Lord! not for naught Hast Thou created (all) this! Glory to Thee! Give us salvation from the penalty of the Fire. “ 

“ Do the unbelievers not realize that the heavens and the earth used to be one solid mass that we exploded into existence? And from water we made all living things? Would they believe?” 

This sounds a lot like the big bang theory does it not? How did Muhammad know about the big bang 1400 years before science?

Islam and science are not different; the in fact they are one and the same. You can not have one without the other. Without science there is no Islam, and without Islam there is no science. This is the way Allah created it. Science goes to prove Islam, and therefore it is not in conflict with the laws of Islam. To prove Muhammad(pbuh) was a true Prophet, God revealed things to him to but into the Qur’an, hundreds of years before science would know about it. There are many examples of this throughout the Qur’an, every thing from: germs, mold, earth science, to the process of birth, and so much more. In fact the entire birth process was revealed by Muhammad(pbuh) 1100 years before science knew about it. People look at the Qur’an as a religious text only, when it is so much more.

“Do they not carefully consider (investigate) the Qur’an or are there locks upon their hearts.” 

Keith L. Moore wrote a college textbook on the subject of embryology: “The Developing Human, Clinically Oriented Embryology” third edition With Islamic additions correlation studies with Qur’an and Hadith through the aid of, Abdul Majeed A. Azzindani. Moore, was a christian, and was so impressed by the accuracy the Qur’an contained on the birth process, from fertilization to birth that he added verses from the Qur’an to his textbook and made it a standard in his class that students must learn this. The fact that Muhammad(pbuh) described this process 1400 years before science knew about it, is mind blowing.

“Do they not consider the Qur’an? Had it been from any other than God, they would surely, have found there in much discrepancy.” 

“It is clear to me that these statements must have come to Muhammad from God, because almost all of this knowledge was not discovered until many centuries later. This proves to me that Muhammad must have been a messenger of God.” Keith L. Moore, Professor Emeritus, University of Toronto

“Say the Qur’an was sent down by Him who knows the secrets (that is) the heavens and Earth.” 

Dr. Moore was a former President of the Canadian Association of Anatomists, and of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists. He was honored by the Canadian Association of Anatomists with the prestigious J.C.B. Grant Award and in 1994 he received the Honored Member Award of the American Association of Clinical Anatomists “for outstanding contributions to the field of clinical anatomy.”

Oh yeah did I mention he is or at least was a Christian when this book was written.

“O mankind! if ye have a doubt about the Resurrection, (consider) that We created you out of dust, then out of sperm, then out of a leech-like clot, then out of a morsel of flesh, partly formed and partly unformed, in order that We may manifest (Our Power) to you; and We cause whom We will to rest in the wombs for an appointed term, then do We bring you out as babes, then (foster you) that ye may reach your age of full strength; and some of you are called to die, and some are sent back to the feeblest old age, so that they know nothing after having known (much). And (further), thou seest the earth barren and lifeless, but when We pour down rain on it, it is stirred (to life), it swells, and it puts forth every kind of beautiful growth in pairs.” 

If you read the descriptions of birth, it is exactly as it happens. When the birth process starts, the embryo look like a blood clot, then a leech and feeds like a leech. It then goes on to say t it looks like a morsel of flesh what this means is; then the embryo looks like a piece of chewed meat. Actually it looks exactly as such, the best comparison in modern time is: a piece of chewed gum with teeth marks in it.

“But He fashioned him in due proportion, and breathed into him something of His spirit. And He gave you (the faculties of) hearing and sight and feeling (and understanding): little thanks do ye give!” 

Once again knowing the birthing process, you would know that in the beginning the human child in the womb is not proportioned well, until it is time for birth.

“Was he not a drop of sperm emitted (in lowly form)? Then did he become a clinging clot; then did (Allah) make and fashion (him) in due proportion.” 

The verses about the embryo are my favorite, but there are many many more verses, and scientific proofs in the Qur’an. So science is Islam and Islam is science. God created us all, and He created all that we love and do. He created us to be very intelligent, and He knew we would be bored without a means to understand God and his creation. He gave us science to better understand Him and to know more about ourselves and our environment, He did this knowing that we would love this and it would be a way for us to Glorify Him even further. To love Him more and to thank Him for giving us such a beautiful gift, and not only giving us a way to love it but to know it and understand it. As humans we are programed to be curious, and to seek answers to the questions of the universe. Many of us seek understanding everyday, we just want to know. The most commonly asked question is probably, “WHY?”. We always want to know why.

Another great example of the science in the Qur’an. Think of space and galaxies, and dust clouds and how stars and planets are formed. How did a man know 1400 years ago know about the formation of planets stars and galaxies? Think of all the pictures of the universe that Hubble showed us, now take that and compare it to the verses of the Qur’an, here is just one example: This verse is about the creation of the universe,

” Then He (God) turned to the sky, and it had been (as) smoke (dukhaan): He said to it and to the earth: come together, willingly or unwillingly. They said: we do come (together) in willing obedience.” 

What about the universe’s expansion, of course the Qur’an doesn’t mention that? How could a man know about these things that long ago if there is no God to tell him.God tell us in the Qur’an that the universe is indeed expanding in this verse:

“The heaven, We have built it with power. Verily, we are expanding it.” 

Almost every major scientist has acknowledged God at one time or another in their life time. Yet people always use their work to try and disprove the God that loves us so much. They use God’s own knowledge to trick and lie to the people of the world.

What about geology? 1400 years ago God revealed to Muhammad(pbuh) that the crust of the earth moves, and told him about the plates of the crusts of the earth. He told him how mountains are formed and how earthquakes happen. Really, what was the growing theory of earthquakes 1400 years ago? And now we know that mountains grow or shrink at roughly the same pace that our thumb nails grow.

“When you look at mountains, you think that they stand still. Bye they are moving, like the clouds. Such is the manufacture of God, who perfected everything. He is knowing of everything you do.” 

These are just a few examples of how science is used in the Qur’an, and how God reveals Himself to us, using science. There are many websites that offer fair amount of information on science in Islam. I will list a few of those sites for you, so that you may do some research on your own, if you chose to do so.

There are many discoveries in modern times that scientists have found to be very rare. It turns out that most of these rare discoveries have been available in the Holy Quran that has been around a very long time ago!

Should I remind you that the numbers you use (1,2,3, … ) are Arabic? Algebra, Algorithm, and many other mathematical words are also Arabic. If you like Math and Science, you should thank the Qur’an for bringing them to you, because there is no other scripture that has given to science more than the Qur’an did.

Let us investigate these claims.

The Arabic numerals are more properly called Hindu-Arabic numerals because they did not originate in Arabia but originated with the Hindus as early as 200 B.C. The system was adopted by the Arabs by about A.D. 800 at the very earliest. They brought it to Spain about 900. It was brought to the rest of Europe about 1100…

Very few Arabs at the time of Mohammad could read or write or know arithmetics. Mohammad himself said we are a nation that does not know how to write or to do arithmetics (nahnu ‘omah la takteb wa la tahseb).

It is the Jewish prisoners of war in early Islam that taught the early Muslims how to read and write etc. and in return they received their freedom.

The Arabs used the local tradesmen, architects and scholars of the conquered countries and learned their skills from them. The scientific measure of the Arabs at the time of Mohammad is best reflected in the Hadith and the Qur’an.

After this quick overview let us now be more specific in regard to the above claims:

 Should I remind you that the numbers you use (1,2,3, …) are Arabic.

They arabic symbols for the digits do look different from the Western way of writing them. Just look at the verse numbers in an Arabic Qur’an. The way of writing them (i.e. the symbols themself) are obivously not the same, so they are not “Arabic”, therefore I guess the claim refers probably to the way of manipulating them, i.e. the positional number system. (The Greeks and Hebrews had signs for numbers long before the Arabs.) Assuming the positional number system is meant and not the symbols for the digits, I have to sadly pop this illusion as well since even that is not from the Arabs as we will see below in greater detail.

 Algebra, Algorithm, and many other mathematical words are also Arabic.

Algebra and Algorithm, I agree. But I am not so sure if you can add “MANY others” to this list as claimed. (But then exaggeration is a very Arabic thing also.)

 If you like Math and Science, You should thank the Qur’an for bringing them to you, because there is no other scripture that has given to Science more than the Qur’an did.

Would you mind showing us where exactly the Qur’an did bring math to us? I have not found that yet. Please quote exact passages which explain those mathematical concepts you seem to allude to.

The Arabs kept learning from the local scholars until they began to reinterpret the Qur’an. But thank God for a man called Ghazali he squashed the new approach and put Islamic thinking hundred of years back because the new approach contradicted the hadith. If it was not for Imam Ghazali the Muslims not the Americans would have been the technological masters of this planet.

The words Algebra and Algorithm come from the Arabic, no question. But e.g. the word Arithmetics comes from the Greek word Arithmos meaning number. So, there are terms coming from one language and other terms coming from other languages, then what exactly are we to conclude from this? Also ponder this one: The word “computer” is English and that is used all over the world even though the first computers were built by the German engineer Konrad Zuse between 1930 and 1942. But it was the Americans who first built them on a large scale and distributed them, so that the English word became the standard word used for it in many languages.

In a similar way, the Arabs have taken over the work others have done [the Greeks and the Indians] and mainly have disseminated it and the Arabic name for it has stuck.

The positional number system was developed fully by the Hindu Indians in the 4th-6th century and adapted by the Arabs only in the 9-10th century. [Encyclopædia Britannica] Somehow many people still believe it was the Arabs who invented it while they only made it known world wide after they have taken it over from the Hindus. There is even a public inscription using the positional number system in India from the year 576, which shows that by this time it was in public use and not only used by the scholars in their studies. And you know that 576 is before the revelation of the Qur’an.

Let me quote in excerpts from Carl B. Boyer, “History of Mathematics”, (a standard reference book):

 During the first century of the Arabic conquests there had been political and intellectual confusion, … The Arabs were at first without intellectual interest, and they had little culture, beyond a language, toimpose on the peoples they conquered. … But by 750 the Arabs were ready to have history repeat itself, for the conquereors became eager to absorb the learning of the civilizations they had overrun. by 766 we learn that an astronomical-mathematical work, known to the Arabs as the “Sindhind”, was brought to Baghdad from India. … A few years later, perhaps about 775, the Siddhanta was translated into Arabic, and it was not long afterward (ca. 780) that Ptolemy’s astrological “Tetrabiblos” was translated into Arabic from the Greek …

The first century of the Muslim empire had been devoid of scientific achievement. This period (from about 650 – 750) had been, in fact, perhaps the nadir in the development of mathematics, for the Arabs had not yet achieved intellectual drive, and concern for learning in the other parts of the world had pretty much faded. Had it not been for the sudden cultural awakening in Islam during the second half of the eighth centrury, considerably more of the ancient science and mathematics would have been lost. To Baghdad at that time were called scholars from Syria, Iran, and Mesopotamia, including Jews and Nestorian Christians; under three great Abbasid patrons of learning — al-Mansur, Haroun al-Rashid, and al-Mamun — the city became a new Alexandria. During the reign of the second of these calliphs, … , part of Euclid was translated. …
Mohammed ibn-Musa al-Khwarizmi, …, who died sometime before 850, wrote more than a half dozen astronomical and mathematical works, of which the earliest were probably based on the Sindhind derived from India. Besides … [he] wrote two books on arithmetic and algebra which played very important roles in the history of mathematics. … In this work, based presumably on an Arabic translatoin of Brahmagupta, al-Khwarizmi gave so full an account of the Hindu numerals that he probably is responsible for the widespread but false impression that our system of numeration is Arabic in origin. Al-Khwarizmi made no claim to originality in connection with the system, the Hindu source if which he assumed as a matter of course; …

Through his arithmetic, al-Khwarizmi’s name has become a common English word; through the title of his most important book, Al-jabr wa’l muqabalah, he has supplied us with an even more popular household term. From this title has come the word “algebra”, for it is from this book that Europe later learned the branch of mathematics bearing this name. Diophantus sometimes is called “the father of algebra”, but this title more appropriately belongs to al-Khwarizmi. It is true that in two respects the work of al-Khwarizmi represented a retrogression from that of Diaophantus. First, it is on a far more elementary level than that found in the Diophantine problems and, second, the algebra of al-Khwarizmi is thoroughly retorical, with none of the syncopation found in the Greek Arthmetica or in Brahmagupta’s work. Even numbers were written out in words rather than symbols! It is quite unlikely that al-Khwarizmi knew of the work of Diophantus, but he must have been familiar with at least the astronomical and computational portions of Brahmagupta; yet neither al-Khwarizmi nor other Arabic scolars made use of syncopation or of negative numbers …

The fundamental differences between Quran and Bible are on the basis of faith and practices in both religions. The manuscript of Bible has been written by many authors as compared to Quran in which the writings show that it is an account made by God Himself. Quran is a complete book and Bible consists of 66 small books from which 18 books consist of signs of their origins because they were reveled upon some Prophet but other books had no claims to their origin. No self referencing is seen in Bible because the word “Bible” has not been used in it on the other hand Quran consists of self referencing. There are many miracles prophecies mentioned in Bible in contrast there are no miracles record because Quran is a miracle itself.

Although Quran accepts that Torah and Gospel both are the books reveled upon different Prophets but at the same time the concept of crucification of Jesus is not stated in it. According to Quran Jesus did not rise from the dead in contrast to Bible. The concept that Jesus was the begotten son of God is also a misconception that is found in Bible but not in Quran. Quran depicts oneness of Allah and accepts Jesus (PBUH) as His prophet. There is no son, no parents and no one equal to God. Bible also teaches the concept of Trinity which is understood as the father (God), the son (Jesus), and Mary.  Bible depicts that man is considered as a sinner and needs salvation which can only be achieved through faith as compared to Quran which states that man is born good not evil and if one want to achieve salvation than it can be  achieved through hard work and sincerity.

Besides these differences there are many other small differences between Quran and Bible. Some differences are based on historical facts rather than being doctrinal in nature. According to Quran Prophet Noah managed to escape the flood and his son was drowned in the flood but according to Bible Prophet Noah had managed to escape the flood with his wife, his three sons and their wives. The differences between Quran and Bible are found in their worst scenarios about Prophet Mosses. According to Quran Prophet Mosses was adopted by Pharoah’s wife but according to Bible he was adopted by Pharoah’s daughter.

Other differences between Quran and Bible are Muslims belief according to Quran that Prophet Ibrahim was offered at the altar by Abraham but Christians believe according to Bible that Prophet Isaac was offered at the altar. Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated by the Muslims on the basis of Quranic Surah where it is mentioned that after sacrificing the animal, only the dedication or godliness shall reach Allah not the blood or flesh of the animal. Bible on the other hand provides another view and it is stated that those families will escape from the judgment of God which apply the blood of sacrificial animal on the doorpost of their homes.

From ages, astronomers argued about the existence of the universe without any change. But in 1912, American astronomer Vesto Slipher changed this concept by stating galaxies as moving away from earth. This was something new and surprised many people. This laid down the foundations for expanding universe theory.

In1916, Einstein presented Relativity Theory to explain earth’s expansion or contraction and in 1929 American astronomer Hubble confirmed it as getting expanded.

Hubble’s law mentioned galaxies as moving bodies going away from earth with a speed proportional to earth’s distance. This velocity-time relation approach laid the basis for modern cosmology.

However, hundreds of years ago, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) told about earth’s expansion by reciting this Quranic verse:

“And the heaven We created with might, and indeed We are (its) expander.” (Quran 51:47)

During that time heaven was reckoned to what actually is above us and this what the scientist discovered.

Holy Quran mentioned this fact when telescope was not even invented.   Holy Prophet (PBUH) recited what was only known to Allah before.

The Big Bang Theory

Hubble also discovered that galaxies are not only moving away from earth but from one another as well, explaining the expansion of whole universe like a balloon. This discovery was regarded as Big Bang Theory.

According to this theory, universe came into being 12-15 billion years ago from the explosion of an extremely hot point and is continuously expanding.

In 1965, radio astronomers Penzias and Wilson confirmed the Big Bang Theory by discovering the heat traces of that hot point which created the universe. They discovered a 2. 725 degree Kelvin Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation around the universe.  This theory is accepted by astronomers and scientists. In the Holy Quran it is stated:

“He (God) is the Originator of the heavens and the earth…” (Quran 6:101)

“Is not He who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the likes of them?  Yes; and He is the Knowing Creator. His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, ‘Be,’ and it is.” (Quran 36:81-82)

Honestly speaking these verses actually laid the foundation of the beginning of the universe. Allah only said Be and everything came into existence.. Can this be an explanation of what led the explosion to begin universe this?

Holy Quran says:

“Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, then We separated them, and made from water every living thing?  Then will they not believe?” (Quran 21:30)

According to the Muslim scholars heaven and earth were under the command of Allah and he split them to create 7 other heavens.

In the above verse, Arabic words “ratq” refers to entity or joined together and “fataq” means We separated, explaining the creation of universe through a split.

The Big Bang Theory confirms the creation of universe exactly as mentioned in the Holy Quran. This is a clear proof that the Holy Quran revealed on Holy Prophet (PBUH), is the Book of God, The Creator of the Universe.

In Arabic, Jihad refers to the struggle to attain slated goals by persevering against all difficulties and obstacles that may come up in the process. Indeed, the term Jihad has been used both in the Qur’an and the saying of the prophet to mean the highest exertion in the cause of God. It never implied the attacks against non-Muslims.

It is the duty of every Muslim to strive in the way of God. Look, for instance, at a verse of the Qur’an which exhorts to the way of incessant striving. “And strive in His cause as ye ought to strive, (with sincerity and under discipline). He has chosen you, and has imposed no difficulties on you in religion; it is the religion of your father Abraham. It is He who has named you Muslims, both before and in this(Revelation); that the messenger may be a witness for you, and ye be witness for mankind! So establish regular prayer, give Zakat and hold fast to Allah! He is your Protector – the Best to protect and the Best to Help?” (H.Q. 22:78)

It is especially relevant that in this verse, which explains the nature of Jihad and exhorts the believers to come forward for the same, the statement “that the messenger may be a witness for you, and ye be witness for mankind” has been mentioned explicitly. The Muslims are those who, after Muhammad (pbuh), have been entrusted with the furtherance of the mission of all the earlier prophets. Therefore, Jihad is the struggle and sacrifice that becomes necessary in accomplishing the mission of witnessing to the true religion.

A Muslim must firstly prepare himself for the mission of witnessing to the true religion. An individual carries out Jihad with his own self by subjecting, and controlling, all his likes and dislikes to the dictates of the Divine commandments. Indeed, in accomplishing his mission a Muslim is duty-bound to subject his wealth, family, society and environment to a proper and apt preparedness. All these preparations come within the meaning of the term Jihad.

A Muslim fulfills his mission of bearing witness to the true religion by living his life according to the Divine religion and also by its propagation. It is also the duty of each Muslim to become part of the process of working for change in a situation wherein the freedom for carrying out both these objectives is curtailed. It is also his obligation to be an active member even of an armed campaign for the restoration of the freedom of religious practice in the event that such a situation comes up and, wherein, the Muslim society does decide that such a course of action is, indeed, imperative.

Jihad is never the battle waged against non-Muslims in a simplistic and general sense. It is, in fact, the nature of life that is lived in accordance with Islam and the exertions, sacrifices and struggle that will be necessary to throw aside the forces that disallow one to live as a Muslim. Only in such circumstances, therefore, will Jihad be in the form of an armed campaign. In all other situations it will remain only as the life that is lived according to Islam and as the struggle that goes with the propagation thereof.”

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE HOLY QUR’AN: 

The Holy Quran is pure and the greatest gift of Allah to humanity. It’s  prospect is to guide human being to the right path, to arouse mankind conscience and to illuminate the human mind. It’s instructions are aimed at the general welfare of human beings.

Allah speaks of the Quran as a radiant light which His servants flow be on right path and never go apart from their Lord, Allah. He says:

“…..but We have made the (Quran) a light, where with we guide such Our servants as We will….”

It is the actual word of Allah and it is beyond human imagination to produce anything like it. Some of the Holy Prophet’s (Peace be upon Him) contemporaries were the greatest masters of Arabic  language, but they could not produce anything like the Quran either in content or in style. The Quran says:

“If the whole of mankind and Jinns were to gather together to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they backed up each other with help and support.”

Allah has perfected His religion for all mankind with the revelation of this Book. He says :

”….This day have I perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you and have chosen for you Islam as your religion.”

The Holy Quran is a complete and comprehensive Book, clearly defining the permitted and forbidden, the lawful and the unlawful as the Quran itself confirms:

“……Nothing have We omitted from the Book……”

And also:

The Quran is spiritual guidance for man, his system of law, his code of ethics and above all, his way of life. It embraces all walks of life and covers the entire field of human affairs, whether spiritual, intellectual, political, social or economic. It is a code that has no boundaries and barriers of time, place or nation.

One of the major characteristics of the Quran is that in its wisdom there is a moving force that provokes the mind and stirs, as is evident from the fact that when the Holy Prophet (Peace be upon Him) first started to preach, his only power was the Quranic wisdom through which he attracted people to Islam.

The Quran characterizes moderation, harmony between the material and spiritual, the individual and collective. The Quran pays attention to all the needs of man and deals with them in such a way as to help him realize the noble objectives of his being . Because of this approach of moderation, the Quran calls the Muslims, a ‘middle nation’ and the best people, evolved for mankind, to enjoin the right and forbid the wrong.

The unique Book enjoys the distinction of being authentic, pure and original both in its contents and order, a quality which no other book of any kind can claim. It stands today as it first came down, over 1400 years ago, and shall always remain to be so as Allah has promised to safeguard it from and violations in its purity:

“We have, without doubt, sent down the Message; and We will assuredly guard if (from corruption)”

We can find all the instruction, knowledge, and invitation for observation the Lord’s creation however it is about a little insect or huge space that bound the earth in its specific orbit. We can learn all this through The Divine Book Qura’an revealed by the Grand Angel of Allah whose name is Gabriel.
Allah Says about The Divine Book “If It is revealed on the greatest mountains they will be definitely divided into pieces or smallest particles. No doubt He (Allah) revealed this Holy Qura’an and fully Responsible for its safety till the day end came of this world”. Allah Has Described in the righteous Quran about the behavior and disobedience of previous nations while He sent His Messengers to those people for guiding those people into right way.
Before Islam in the state of Saudi Arabia people were reached to the peak of ignorant and proudly done the largest sins. Almost the humanity was going to its end they were totally drowned into the world of transgressions and never felt any embarrassment what they done. In that situation Allah sent His Last Prophet Hazrat Muhammad P.B.U.H with The Divine Book. Allah Revealed this mysterious book into parts and completed It in a long period of 23 years. That’s why Our Holy Qura’an carries the knowledge for even the last single person of this world who will come at the end.
Now we can get the best guidance as well as knowledge by The Divine Book which always instruct us and invite us into the true way. The readers and scholars of Holy Qura’an know the worth of this knowledge. It is a gift for us as a Muslim we can touch, recite and understand the teaching of our One Lord by this Great Book.

The holy Quran is not just a book, but it holds all the core values of Islam and Muslim culture and religion. It seems that this year brings a lot of achievements to all Muslims around the world. Lately the Ministry of Islamic Affairs in Saudi Arabia has issued the first translation of the Quran in the Philippines language (Filipino).

After a continuous hard work during the last ten years, Saudi Arabia managed through an Islamic Invitation Office, responsible for inviting non-Muslim communities to Islam in the industrial zone, to issue this version of the interpretation of Quran that does not fall under the books of “the translated Holy Quran”, but is a translation of the book “The Facilitated Interpretation” which is approved by King Fahd complex in Medina for Printing the Holy Quran that falls under the Saudi Arabian government.

Those 10 years of sustained efforts were done by four full-time preachers, three collaborate preachers, and four female preachers in addition to a group of supporters preachers and specialists from outside Saudi Arabia.

Asking about the reason for choosing the Filipino language as the language of the approved interpretation, instead of any language of other countries, like Indian or Chinese languages, the Director of the Islamic Invitation Office in the industrial zone in Jeddah, Engineer Fouad Kauthar replied:

According to the official figures and numbers issued by the Islamic invitation offices around Saudi Arabia, it was found that the largest number of foreigners who enter Islam in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) are from the Philippines, accounting for 73% from the overall percentage of non-Muslims, which means that every 100 new Muslim there are 73 Muslim from the Philippines.

Engineer Kauthar further explains the presence of Filipinos in Saudi Arabia by saying that the Philippines has become in the year 2009, the country No. 12 globally in the census of “92 million people,” and that this country is a source of skilled workers in both the industrial and medical field.

He added that the estimated number of Filipinos in Middle East is around two million people; half of them already work in Saudi Arabia in medical facilities and industrial zones.

The new translation of The Quran interpretation came out to the light, after an approval by the authorized department in the Ministry of Mass Communication in Saudi Arabia. Then it printed 20 thousand copies of the book, at a cost of 240 thousand dollars, the equivalent of 900 thousand Saudi Riyals, and the book is in 1380 pages.

The project managers made the distribution of the book free of any charges, and were keen to open the door for financial donation for the publication of the book, by donating the value of $ 12printing one copy of the book, to print a high quality standard book. There is also a plan to build a global website to enable researchers and those interested to benefit from the project.

The plan of distributing the book is focusing on inside and outside of Saudi Arabia, where 40% through the Islamic offices inside KSA, while 60% will be through sending copies of the book to the specialized Islamic centers around the world.

A prominent national Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization today called on Pentagon officials not to use a target depicting a Muslim woman wearing a religious head scarf (hijab) and verses from the Quran in combat scenarios for training Navy SEALs at the new close quarters combat range at Joint Base Fort Story in Virginia Beach, Va.

The Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said that military facility, referred to as a "kill house," features a number of combat scenarios, including a mosque and a movable target of a Muslim woman wearing hijab and aiming a handgun. Verses from the Quran, Islam's revealed text, are also displayed behind the target.

"Using a Muslim woman wearing a religious head scarf with [verses from the] Quran behind her as a target for our nation's military personnel is offensive and sends a negative and counterproductive message to trainees and to the Muslim-majority nations to which they may be deployed," wrote CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad in a letter to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta. "This is yet another example of why the Department of Defense needs to fix what appears to be an ongoing problem by consulting credible scholars and experts to review all training and training materials related to Islam or Muslims."

To this question, I think that most people would answer that stating the fact that it is because Arabic was the language that prophet Muhammad spoke and understood. Although I do not challenge that answer, in my opinion we can go a bit further. Being a revelation destined for the whole mankind, I think that it is legitimate to think that there’s probably something special about Arabic language that has allowed it to be the one God chose. And to try to prove that I would like to invite you to come with me. If you accept, we’ll both be following the second ayat of chapter 12 -  Indeed, We have revealed it as an Arabic Qur’an that you might understand.

For those not familiar with Arabic language, it helps to know that the word Qur’an is one of several words derived from the root قرا (qr’). The first of the root’s meanings to which we’ll be looking at is to collect together, part by part, that shows us the Qur’an as a collection of parts, of distinct elements that were drawn together thus giving origin to a book. But imagine we would like to add some details to this rather simplistic assumption…

We’ll pour in more detail by calling to our presence Latin word colligo (with which English collect and collection are kindred), that means to gather or collect together into a whole, to assemble; being used, for example, in military language, to describe the assemble of an army. But the most interesting of its meanings comes through one of its metaphorical uses, where we find colligo meaning to put together in the mind, to think upon. Don’t you agree that this adds to a better understanding of what it means to consider the Qur’an as a collection of parts? It allows you to still see the Holy Book Qur’an as a surface upon which are gathered the ayat and the chapters, but it also impels you to consider the need to have those parts collected in your mind through reasoning.

We’ll now turn to the other root meaning that we have to ponder on to read.

What does reading has to do with collecting together separated parts? The answer seems easy… When one reads he brings together not only the letters, but also the words as well as the sentences into a whole. But again, let us try to have more details… Take Latin verb lego: bringing, gathering, collecting together, in general used as referring, for instance,  to the gathering of fruits or flowers, which added colligo the notion of taking, picking out. In other words, this collecting together by picking out leads to the idea of extraction, removing.

Let me assume that you have already picked up fruits from a tree… If you have, you know that you don’t pick indiscriminately as you would if your eyes were closed or blindfolded, and all you had to do was to grasp your hands at the fruits. When you collect a fruit from its tree, you do choose what you pick it out, that is, you select the one that’s most appealing to you. In other words, when you remove a fruit from a tree, you are taking the one you’ve chosen from amongst all the other hanging on the tree.

Now, besides this, lego means to read, which is quite curious, as it gives us permission not only to look at the act of reading as the collecting of letters and words together, but also to see in that act a means of having selected parts to compose a whole.

Let us now bring the Qur’an… When you read the Qur’an beginning in one chapter till its end, you are making use of a collection that has been organized, collected, after its revelation. But, why not trying to select parts, separated ayat, and then try to bring them together with the help of your faculties? You just have to grasp what you’ve selected and have them collected in your intellect through reasoning. Who knows… maybe you’ll see each separated ayat as a pierced pearl through which it is possible to pass a thread thus making a necklace… the thread being your understanding of the selection you’ve made…
