Jesus through Muslims’ Eyes

on Friday, November 2, 2012

A wide misconception prevails in the west is that Muslim do not believe in Jesus. However, Christians might be surprised to discover that Jesus Christ is acclaimed throughout Islam, which is the world’s second largest faith. We Muslims also believe in the Virgin Birth and Jesus’ miracles, but it goes much further in regards to the shared interest of his message. In the Muslims view, Jesus’ indispensable work was to complement the legalism of the Torah with a compassion rarely expressed in the Old Testament. The great Jesus confirmed the Torah, developed the significance of sympathy and self-purification, and established them as the decisive links between the words of God’s message and possessing the wisdom. Muslims also believe that Jesus emphasized on the continuity of his ancestry.

Waraqa bin Nawfal was the uncle of Bibi Khadija, Hazrat Muhammad’s Wife. He was an early Arab Christian and a resident of Mecca. He was mystical by nature and could read Hebrew. One day when Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) was forty years old, Bibi Khadija brought Him to Waraqa bin Nawfal. Prophet (B.B.U.H) was a respected family man till that time, and he was frightened somehow. He told Waraqa that one evening on the outskirts of town he was meditating in a cave. While he was half asleep, he noticed something disturbing and he got scared when he heard a voice speaking to him. At that time Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) was unaware that it was his first encounter with angel Gabriel, the messenger of Allah. Waraqa after listening to Prophet’s encounter assured him that he was not possessed.

He told Prophet (P.B.U.H) that the voice he heard was of the same pious messenger God sent to Moses. Moreover, he wished to be alive till Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) would become prophet and His own people would expel him. Hazrat Muhammad (P.B.U.H) was astonished to hear about his future rejection, he asked Waraqa the reason. Old Waraqa said, “No one has ever brought his people the news you bring without meeting hostility. If I live to see the day, I will support you.”  From Waraqa’s remarks Christians could recognize an aphorism related with Jesus. “A prophet is not without honor, save in his own country.
It is noticeable that even today, when Jesus’ name is mentioned, Muslims always followed it by the phrase “peace and blessings be upon him,” as Muslims still venerate him as a prophet. “We believe in God, and in what has been sent down to us, what has been revealed to Abraham and Ishmael, and Isaac and Jacob and their offspring and what was given to Moses and to Jesus, and all the other prophets of the Lord. We make no distinction among them.”

These lines from the Qur’an make it clear that Jesus has been regarded as one of the world’s great teachers by the Muslims. Furthermore, Jesus is a unique sort of prophet among Muslims, a messenger authorized to converse divinity not only in words but by miracles as well.

Jesus peace be upon him in the Qur’an (P1)

on Saturday, October 6, 2012

Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I [am] God, and [there is] none else.

Isaiah 45:22

The following is a short, and by no means comprehensive, selection of verses from the Qur’an with regard to Jesus (peace be upon him), the prophets of Allah in general, and some basic foundations of Islam:

First mention of Jesus (pbuh) in the Qur’an:

“And verily We gave unto Moses the Scripture and We caused a train of messengers to follow after him, and We gave unto Jesus, son of Mary, clear signs, and We supported him with the holy spirit (angel Gabriel). Is it that whenever there came to you a Messenger with that which you yourselves desire not, you grow arrogant? Some you disbelieved, and some you killed” Al-Bakarah(2):87.

{وَلَقَدْ آتَيْنَا مُوسَىَ الْكِتَابَ وَقَفّيْنَا مِن بَعْدِهِ بِالرّسُلِ وَآتَيْنَا عِيسَى ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ الْبَيّنَاتِ وَأَيّدْنَاهُ بِرُوحِ الْقُدُسِ أَفَكُلّمَا جَآءَكُمْ رَسُولٌ بِمَا لاَ تَهْوَىَ أَنْفُسُكُمْ اسْتَكْبَرْتُمْ فَفَرِيقاً كَذّبْتُمْ وَفَرِيقاً تَقْتُلُونَ }

Mention made of some of the prophets of Allah:

After speaking about Abraham (pbuh) God says: “And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob; each of them We guided; and Noah did We guide aforetime; and of his seed (We guided) David and Solomon and Job and Joseph and Moses and Aaron. Thus do We reward the good. And Zachariah and John and Jesus and Elias. Each one (of them) was of the righteous. And Ishmael and Elisha and Jonah and Lot. Each one of them did We prefer above (Our) creatures” Al-Anaam(6):84-86.

{ وَوَهَبْنَا لَهُ إِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ كُلًّا هَدَيْنَا وَنُوحًا هَدَيْنَا مِنْ قَبْلُ وَمِنْ ذُرِّيَّتِهِ دَاوُدَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ وَأَيُّوبَ وَيُوسُفَ وَمُوسَى وَهَارُونَ وَكَذَلِكَ نَجْزِي الْمُحْسِنِينَ * وَزَكَرِيَّا وَيَحْيَى وَعِيسَى وَإِلْيَاسَ كُلٌّ مِنَ الصَّالِحِينَ * وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَالْيَسَعَ وَيُونُسَ وَلُوطًا وَكُلًّا فَضَّلْنَا عَلَى الْعَالَمِينَ }

The message of the prophets was ONE message:

“Say (O Muhammad): We believe in Allah and that which has been sent down to us, and that which was sent down to Abraham and Ishmael and Isaac and Jacob and the sons of Jacob, and that which was given to Moses and Jesus and the Prophets from their Lord. We make no distinction between any of them, and unto Him we have surrendered. And whosoever seeks other than Islam as [their] religion it will not be accepted from him, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers. How shall Allah guide a people who disbelieved after their belief and (after) they bore witness that the messenger (Muhammad) is true and after clear proofs had come unto them. And Allah guides not wrongdoing folk.” A’al-Umran(3):84-86

{قُلْ آمَنَّا بِاللّهِ وَمَا أُنزِلَ عَلَيْنَا وَمَا أُنزِلَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإِسْحَاقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَالأَسْبَاطِ وَمَا أُوتِيَ مُوسَى وَعِيسَى وَالنَّبِيُّونَ مِن رَّبِّهِمْ لاَ نُفَرِّقُ بَيْنَ أَحَدٍ مِّنْهُمْ وَنَحْنُ لَهُ مُسْلِمُونَ * وَمَن يَبْتَغِ غَيْرَ الإِسْلاَمِ دِيناً فَلَن يُقْبَلَ مِنْهُ وَهُوَ فِي الآخِرَةِ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ * كَيْفَ يَهْدِي اللّهُ قَوْماً كَفَرُواْ بَعْدَ إِيمَانِهِمْ وَشَهِدُواْ أَنَّ الرَّسُولَ حَقٌّ وَجَاءهُمُ الْبَيِّنَاتُ وَاللّهُ لاَ يَهْدِي الْقَوْمَ الظَّالِمِينَ }

What was this message?:

“And verily We have sent in every nation a messenger, (proclaiming): Worship Allah (alone) and shun false gods. Then of them were some whom Allah guided, and of them were some upon whom misguidance had just hold. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth)!” Al-Nahil(16):36

{ وَلَقَدْ بَعَثْنَا فِي كُلِّ أُمَّةٍ رَسُولًا أَنِ اُعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَاجْتَنِبُوا الطَّاغُوتَ فَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ هَدَى اللَّهُ وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ حَقَّتْ عَلَيْهِ الضَّلَالَةُ فَسِيرُوا فِي الْأَرْضِ فَانْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الْمُكَذِّبِينَ}

016036

Summary of Allah’s message from Jews to Christians to Muslims:

“Indeed Allah made a covenant with the Children of Israel and We appointed among them twelve chieftains: and Allah said: I am with you if you establish worship and pay the poor due, and believe in My messengers and support them, and lend unto Allah a good loan, surely I shall remit your sins, and shall admit you into gardens underneath which rivers flow. But if any among you disbelieves after this has indeed gone astray from the straight path. So because of their breaking their covenant, We have cursed them and made hard their hearts. They change words from their (correct) places and forget a part of the Message that was sent to them. You will not cease to discover deceit in them, except a few of them. But forgive them and overlook (their misdeeds). Verily Allah loves the good-doers. And from those who said: “We are Christians,” We made a covenant, but they forgot a good part of the message which was sent to them. Therefore We have stirred up enmity and hatred among them till the Day of Resurrection, and Allah will inform them of what they used to do. O people of the Scripture! Now has Our messenger (Muhammad) come to you, explaining to you much of that which you used to hide in the Scripture, and forgiving much. Indeed, there has come to you a light from Allah and a plain Scripture. Wherewith Allah guides him who seeks His good pleasure unto paths of peace. He brings them out of darkness by His will into light, and guides them to a straight path. They indeed have disbelieved who say: Lo! Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary. Say : Who then has the least power against Allah, if He had willed to destroy the Messiah son of Mary, and his mother and everyone on earth? And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them. He creates what He will. And Allah is Able to do all things. The Jews and Christians say: We are sons of Allah and His loved ones. Say; Why then does He punish you for your sins? No, you are but mortals of His creating. He forgives whom He will, and punishes whom He will. And to Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, and unto Him is the return (of all). O people of the Scripture! Now has Our messenger (Muhammad) come unto you to make things plain after a break in (the series of) the messengers, lest you should say: There came not unto us a messenger of cheer nor any Warner. Now has a messenger of cheer and a Warner come unto you. And Allah is Able to do all things.” Al-Maidah(5):12-19

{ وَلَقَدْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ مِيثَاقَ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ وَبَعَثْنَا مِنْهُمُ اثْنَيْ عَشَرَ نَقِيبًا وَقَالَ اللَّهُ إِنِّي مَعَكُمْ لَئِنْ أَقَمْتُمُ الصَّلَاةَ وَآتَيْتُمُ الزَّكَاةَ وَآمَنْتُمْ بِرُسُلِي وَعَزَّرْتُمُوهُمْ وَأَقْرَضْتُمُ اللَّهَ قَرْضًا حَسَنًا لَأُكَفِّرَنَّ عَنْكُمْ سَيِّئَاتِكُمْ وَلَأُدْخِلَنَّكُمْ جَنَّاتٍ تَجْرِي مِنْ تَحْتِهَا الْأَنْهَارُ فَمَنْ كَفَرَ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ مِنْكُمْ فَقَدْ ضَلَّ سَوَاءَ السَّبِيلِ * فَبِمَا نَقْضِهِمْ مِيثَاقَهُمْ لَعَنَّاهُمْ وَجَعَلْنَا قُلُوبَهُمْ قَاسِيَةً يُحَرِّفُونَ الْكَلِمَ عَنْ مَوَاضِعِهِ وَنَسُوا حَظًّا مِمَّا ذُكِّرُوا بِهِ وَلَا تَزَالُ تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى خَائِنَةٍ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا مِنْهُمْ فَاعْفُ عَنْهُمْ وَاصْفَحْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُحِبُّ الْمُحْسِنِينَ * وَمِنَ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا إِنَّا نَصَارَى أَخَذْنَا مِيثَاقَهُمْ فَنَسُوا حَظًّا مِمَّا ذُكِّرُوا بِهِ فَأَغْرَيْنَا بَيْنَهُمُ الْعَدَاوَةَ وَالْبَغْضَاءَ إِلَى يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَسَوْفَ يُنَبِّئُهُمُ اللَّهُ بِمَا كَانُوا يَصْنَعُونَ * يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ قَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولُنَا يُبَيِّنُ لَكُمْ كَثِيرًا مِمَّا كُنْتُمْ تُخْفُونَ مِنَ الْكِتَابِ وَيَعْفُو عَنْ كَثِيرٍ قَدْ جَاءَكُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ نُورٌ وَكِتَابٌ مُبِينٌ * يَهْدِي بِهِ اللَّهُ مَنِ اتَّبَعَ رِضْوَانَهُ سُبُلَ السَّلَامِ وَيُخْرِجُهُمْ مِنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ بِإِذْنِهِ وَيَهْدِيهِمْ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ * لَقَدْ كَفَرَ الَّذِينَ قَالُوا إِنَّ اللَّهَ هُوَ الْمَسِيحُ ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ قُلْ فَمَنْ يَمْلِكُ مِنَ اللَّهِ شَيْئًا إِنْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يُهْلِكَ الْمَسِيحَ ابْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَأُمَّهُ وَمَنْ فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا وَلِلَّهِ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا يخْلُقُ مَا يَشَاءُ وَاللَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ * وَقَالَتِ الْيَهُودُ وَالنَّصَارَى نَحْنُ أَبْنَاءُ اللَّهِ وَأَحِبَّاؤُهُ قُلْ فَلِمَ يُعَذِّبُكُمْ بِذُنُوبِكُمْ بَلْ أَنْتُمْ بَشَرٌ مِمَّنْ خَلَقَ يَغْفِرُ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيُعَذِّبُ مَنْ يَشَاءُ وَلِلَّهِ مُلْكُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا وَإِلَيْهِ الْمَصِيرُ * يَا أَهْلَ الْكِتَابِ قَدْ جَاءَكُمْ رَسُولُنَا يُبَيِّنُ لَكُمْ عَلَى فَتْرَةٍ مِنَ الرُّسُلِ أَنْ تَقُولُوا مَا جَاءَنَا مِنْ بَشِيرٍ وَلَا نَذِيرٍ فَقَدْ جَاءَكُمْ بَشِيرٌ وَنَذِيرٌ وَاللَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْءٍ قَدِيرٌ }

যিশু ( Jesus Christ)

on Wednesday, August 22, 2012

Jesus Christ

“Jesus will return”, What Muslims Think About Jesus And His Return To Earth

on Tuesday, June 5, 2012

Jesus Christ is one of the Holy prophets sent to earth by Almighty Allah to spread Christianity and teach people morals, forgiveness and let them know more about Allah.  He was there when God created Adam and Eve. Jesus was a chosen slave of Allah, just like other Prophets who were assigned by Allah. All Prophets have various qualitative attributes, but the attributes of Jesus distinguishing him from other prophets. According to Islam Jesus was neither killed nor crucified or die but he disappeared, and it has mentioned in Qur’an as well that Allah raised him up.  In the Holy book, the whole life story of Jesus can be found easily.

Jesus life is full of teachings. His Mother was Virgin Mary, and this point is really very unique about Jesus. However Jesus disappeared from His tomb, he will definitely return, because God said that He will be the sign of the Day of Judgment. Qur’an said that Jesus, the Prophet and Messiah is alive and in the near future he will return to the earth. His noble morality and miracles are can be seen in history.

Undoubtedly, Muslims believe in Jesus and love him as well. So they have a belief that He will come back to the earth again and His purpose will be to save the humanity. In fact, Muslims are eagerly waiting for Jesus that He will come back to earth and solve the problems of humanity. This is also a fact that in every age or period, Allah answered the calls of His people, so it is also a believe that in the coming era, for the sake of humanity and save them from injustice, He will hold his people in the coming era. In fact He is still holding.

In today’s age anyone can observe the situation of the world. We have an understanding about good and bad, right and wrong but still we are moving towards the wrong path. The future of the world’s people can be seen as dark. But with the appearance of Jesus, this Dark Age will automatically convert into the shiny people and Jesus will save people from all kinds of bad deeds and injustice.

There is an examination in the Qur’an, which indicates that Jesus will surely return to earth. Different verses are the witness of this reality about Jesus. Jesus will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead. He will be a messenger of Allah, who come to return to earth. Because throughout history, Allah sent His messengers to many people, so it will happen in the coming period as well.

With the return point of Jesus, the Christ era will also return and this is the believe of the Christian people. Now-a-days, it has become the slogan that what would Jesus do on His return to earth. But the question of this answer has already presented in the Holy Book.
