Right of pets according to Islam,Christianity and Hinduism

on Monday, March 25, 2013

It is very common to hear about humanity and other slogans for the human rights but have you ever observed anyone raising the slogan for the rights of dumb creatures? It is really heartbreaking that humans are filching the rights of animals directly or indirectly. If you start exploring the statistics, then you will find a number of cases where animals had died just because of some wrong steps or actions taken by humans. Here in this article, we will be discussing the rules, ethics and rights described by three major religions regarding pets and animals.

What Islam says about Animals/pets:

Islam, as believed to be the rightful religion for the whole universe has properly declared the rights of animals. You can find clear instructions and obligations about “how to treat animals/pets?” not only written in the holy Quran but also in Haith. It is believed that all these animal creatures praise Allah Almighty, but it their language is not understandable by humans. Islam has allowed all the Muslims to eat the meat of halal animals, but yet you can find some great examples where Sufis have followed vegetarianism. If a Muslim has to hunt or slaughter an animal then there are special instructions to ensure that this animal does not bear much pain. Islam discourages hunting animals as an entertainment as Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) said that anyone who shoots a living creature for sport is cursed. Also he said, “There is no man who kills a sparrow or anything smaller without its deserving it, but Allah will question him/her about it on the Day of Judgment”. If a person is keeping a pet under his custody, then it is necessary that he should take care of it. You will be asked about the rights of these animals under your custody.

What Hinduism says about Animals/pets:

The preachers and followers of Hinduism also give a special respect and value to the rights of animals. According to Hinduism, they believe animals are the vehicles of many Gods and Goddesses. According to many Hinduism schools of thoughts, they regard animals, humans and other living beings to be the manifestation of God. They don’t regard animals as inferior creatures. Regarding hunting of animals, Hinduism has given rights to the followers to enjoy hunting and fights of animals as sports. Most of the Hindus don’t like to eat animal protein as they are vegetarians. Moreover, they have also restricted the job of butchery for low caste people.

What Christianity says about Animals/pets:

In general, Christians believe that animals have been put on the earth for their use. They can use these creatures in whatever way they like. Most of the believers of Christianity have the view that animals don’t have any soul, and that they can treat them as badly as they wish. The modern trend has changed, and most of the Christians in modern society feel bad about animal mistreatment. The traditional Christians had the view point that God has created these creatures just for the human beings and animals are inferior to human beings. They only treated or visualized animals in relation to humans. These three reasons kept them blind to believe that any mistreatment to the animals cannot be called as a bad deed. Now the modern Christians have changed their point of view, and you can see many such organizations and people who work for the rights of animals and pets.

Christianity – A religion with a history of love and peace

on Friday, March 8, 2013

Christianity is the world’s largest religion, and the followers of this religion are living around almost all parts of the world. Every person has a different stance regarding religious rigidity and peace. Some followers stick to their religion in a peaceful manner while others are aggressive. This fact applies for all religions. Among the long list of religions, two major religions including Islam and Christianity claim to be religions of peace. So let’s test the claim of Christianity as a religion of peace.

Christianity is a combination of different beliefs, passages and traditions that do not support the implication of love, peace and forgiveness. Every community based upon religion, tradition, race or any other factor is always divided into two groups. One group is constituted of peaceful minds, but the other one represents aggression. The people from both groups stand for justice and equality, but their definition of justice and equality is different from each other. So this is where the difference arises.

The real peace in this world cannot exist until or unless prevalence of justice so those who are in support of violence sometimes take this as their helping hand. They argue that if you want to have a real long time peace in this world and provide the fair justice to the people around the world, then there is no harm to use violent factors to achieve the mutual agenda. The intention matters a lot, what you are doing is for what purpose? If you are doing violence for your own hidden motives, then no religion or group can allow it.

Every religion teaches peace to its followers. So it is understood that violence is not the real solution, and it can become a part of creating a bigger problem. It is definitely not an end to a mean. So, this is the reason, Christianity even denies rule of violence.

The group that shows their efforts for love and peace believes that the problem can only be solved through dialogue and talks. The war and violence are not a solution in themselves. So they prefer to win the hearts of people through their love for peace. They are also advocating their point that Jesus was believed to be the “Prince of Peace”.

Both groups have their opinion. You can assume that a Christian can be a peace lover or war hunter, but definitely Christianity is a religion of peace. It depends upon the followers that how they put the rules of Christianity into practice.

Islam and Christianity – Can the two religions survive together?

on Tuesday, March 5, 2013

Before discussing whether Islam and Christianity can coexist, it is essential to understand that the two religions have the same foundation. Both undoubtedly come from the same source, but some changes made by humans have led to a great deal of conflicts and misunderstandings during the course of history.  In order to understand the commonalities of the world’s two largest belief systems, you should realize that God sent His messengers at different times, to different places to guide mankind to believe in the Unity and Oneness of God.

Different Messengers and Prophets came, and among them, we have Prophet Jesus and Prophet Moses and many more. However, the line of prophets continued till Prophet Muhammad, who Muslims believe to be the last of all prophets, or the Seal of Prophets. He also guided humanity towards the right path, that is the path of God, and brought the same message of unity that was taught by his predecessors. The purpose of sending different prophets after intervals, with the same message, was that people used to forget the teachings of God and they would deviate from the right path.

Muslims believe the line of prophets ended with Prophet Mohammad. He brought with him the ultimate religion, and it was compulsory for Christians ( followers of Prophet Jesus) and Jews (followers of Prophet Moses) to believe in Prophet Mohammad as the last messenger and follow his teachings. This means that there is no place for Christianity after teh advent of Islam because Islam is the ultimate religion, and it is compulsory for every Christian and Jew to follow the last prophet as they were guided in their respective Holy Books. Therefore, if we look at it from a religious point of view, there is no chance for the existence of Christianity after Islam.

However, the true message of Prophet Jesus was known to be altered by the followers and the beliefs of Christians today is different from the beliefs taught to them by their Prophet. Therefore, now if we look at the two communities being able to live together, there exists a possibility to live together in peace, if both communities forget the differences of religious beliefs and sign agreements to live together harmoniously. One should always think positively. Looking back into history, we can witness Islam and Christianity surviving together in peace under the Ottoman rule.

Although some would say that religious differences between Christians and Muslims can never allow them to live together in peace, others would argue that they can coexist peacefully if they follow particular terms and conditions. Looking back into Islamic history, we can see that during the reigns of the Rightly Guided Caliphs and many Muslim rulers after them, Christians were given complete rights of their lives, properties and religious beliefs, which encouraged them to live in peace with Muslims.

Muslims perspective of Christianity as a Religion

on Tuesday, February 26, 2013

Muslim is a person who believes in Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and that there is only one ALLAH. A person cannot be a Muslim if he does not believe in other Prophets of ALLAH. Prophets who were sent for the guidance of people at different times and in different places. So this way Muslims do believe in the Prophet Hood of Jesus Christ and the Holy Book Bible because this is part of their belief. This way Muslims view Christians as the “people of the book”.

Muslims only believe in Jesus Christ as Prophet of ALLAH. He is a messenger to people and not as a “Begotten” son. Muslims also believe that on the day of Judgment everything rest with Almighty ALLAH, the most merciful and All- Knowing. It is mentioned in Quran that all people who have done good deeds will see them, and all sinful deed will also be shown. So those who do the good deeds shall stand full of success, and those who don`t have ever-lasting punishment.

Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) asked the Christians to worship only one ALLAH without any associate like son, partner or any companion. In Quran the Holy book of Muslims, it is mentioned to deal kindly with the Christians and cooperate with them, unless they do any harm to you or attack your religion or expel Muslims from their religion or homes.

In Muslim countries, Christians are allowed to carry on their activities in a peaceful manner. They were not being disturbed or forced to abandon their any religious activities. It is also prohibited, in Muslim countries, to force someone to convert to Islam, as Islam does not allow this.

ALLAH says in the Holy Quran about the people of the book:

Not all of them are alike: Of the People of the Book are a portion that stand (For the right): They rehearse the Signs of Allah all night long, and they prostrate themselves in adoration. They believe in Allah and the Last Day; they enjoin what is right, and forbid what is wrong; and they hasten (in emulation) in (all) good works: They are in the ranks of the righteous. Of the good that they do, nothing will be rejected of them; for Allah knows well those that do right.” [Qur'an 03:113]

“Verily! Those who believe and those who are Jews and Christians, and Sabians, whoever believes in God and the Last Day and do righteous good deeds shall have their reward with their Lord, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve .” [Qur'an 2:62]

Islam is a religion of peace and brotherhood. Islam asks its followers to act upon the guidelines of the Holy Prophet and the Holy Quran in the living and relations with fellow Muslims and Non Muslims. In Islam, the rules of everything are clearly mentioned. You as a Muslim have to follow them to be successful in this life and the life hereafter.

Even in wars Muslims are not allowed to kill anyone who do not fight against them, you cannot kill women, children, old citizens and people who are working in their fields and do not fight you. You cannot destroy any school or cut any tree. So how Muslims can think of violence against any other religion and its followers?

Why Islam is closer to Judaism, not Christianity

on Saturday, November 3, 2012

There are three religions that worship the same God. These are called Abrahamic religions, because they stem from Abraham/Ibrahim, and they include Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Politics between Israel and the Arab World has had many negative effects, not least of which are misconceptions of Judaism throughout the Muslim World.

Islam is a religion of orthopraxy, meaning “right practice.” This is why Islam has Five Pillars of Faith, mandated daily prayers, and regulations on lifestyle. Judaism is also a religion of orthopraxy. Just as Muslims have dietary laws that require food to be halal, Jews have very similar dietary laws that require food to be kashrut, or kosher. For these two religions, a follower demonstrates his or her piety through behavior, i.e. following the roadmap for life as per the word of God.

Unlike Judaism and Islam, Christianity is a religion of orthodoxy, meaning “right belief.” Piety is determined less by one’s adherence to a lifestyle mandated by scripture, and more by a follower’s belief that Jesus/Isis represents the Holy Trinity, or Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Judaism and Islam believe that all recognized Prophets are equal, beginning with Abraham/Ibrahim. The Prophet Muhammad is the Seal of the Prophets, or the final Prophet, for Muslims, but he does not have greater significance to Islam than any of the other Prophets, for example Jesus/Isis or Abraham/Ibrahim. This belief in the equality of the Prophets is the same in Judaism. Similarly, both religions respect the Prophets and God by refraining from idolatry, which is why artistic traditions in Islam and Judaism are adamantly focused on symbolism.

For Christians, Jesus/Isis is the most important figure; He is the Son of God, not a Prophet. Furthermore, idolatry is encouraged. The face of Jesus adorns everything from Church ceilings to road-side billboards and clothing While all three Abrahamic faiths stem from the particular monotheistic themes introduced by the Prophet Abraham/Ibrahim, and all three worship the same God, when it comes to demonstration of one’s piety per the mandates of scripture, Islam and Judaism are structurally dissimilar from Christianity.

Lastly, for the sake of a wider dialogue, we should also acknowledge the influence of Zoroastrianism on Christianity (and Islam and Judaism). Zoroastrianism is a Persian faith that predates Judaism, and thus all the Abrahamic faiths, by at least 500 years. It comes from the teachings of Zoroaster, or Zardosht, who saw the world as being divided between forces of Good and Evil, Light and Dark. And while it never quite became a monotheistic faith, it was very close. Christians will remember the story of the three wise men who brought gifts to baby Jesus the night of his birth. These wise men were called Maji. The name for Zoroastrian priests is . . .  Maji. The same. Some other influences are that the holiest day of the year in Zoroastrianism is December 25th, and there is also a prophet who is born to a virgin mother.

This article was not meant to be comprehensive. It was, however, meant to start a respectful dialogue.

*I would also like to declare that my bias toward Religious Studies reflects an Academic approach, which does not always align with a Religious approach. I am interested in all religions and spiritual belief systems, and I don’t prioritize any one over the others.*

বিশ্বব্যাপী খ্রিস্টান ধর্মের প্রসার (Spread of Christianity throughout world)

Spread of Christianity throughout world

Islam, Christianity and Judaism

on Tuesday, July 3, 2012

The first Man to come on this world was Adam (Hazrat Adam [A.S.]) Since then and after it many men and women are born in this world and so every man has it own thinking. Some have good thinking and some have bad thinking. Bad people spread hatred and corruption where ever they go.

To stop corruption and hatred among people our Lord has many options but he has chosen the Prophets. A normal man like us will come and teach us the right path of good deeds, love and peace. Many of the prophets of their time came to turn to people towards Allah. Adam (PBUH) is the first Prophet and Hazrat Mohammad (S.A.W.) is the last Prophet and Messenger.

We differentiate Prophet and Messenger as such that Prophets are chosen people and who call people towards Allah while Messengers are also chosen ones but they not only call people towards Allah but they received  revelations too from Allah. There are many Prophets and same way could be many Messengers. Every Messenger is Prophet obviously but Prophets are not Messengers. Many Prophets came into this world. According to Hadith there were more than 1,24,000 Prophets. In Quran only 25 of them are mentioned by their names;

  • Adam -Adam
  • Idris – Enoch
  • Nuh – Noah
  • Hud- Eber
  • Saleh -Shelah
  • Ibrahim-Abraham
  • Lut -Lot
  • Ismail – Ishmael
  • Is’haq -Isaac
  • Yaqub-Jacob
  • Yusuf -Joseph
  • Ayub – Job
  • Shoaib- Jethro
  • Musa – Moses
  • Harun -Aaron
  • Dhul-Kifl -Ezekiel
  • Daud -David
  • Sulayman -Solomon
  • Ilyas -Elijah
  • Al-Yasa -Elisha
  • Yunus -Jonah
  • Zakariya-Zacharias
  • Yahya-John
  • Isa-Jesus
  • Muhammad-Mohammed

and there are 4 Messengers named in Quran also;

  • David who received Psalms
  • Moses who received Torah
  • Jesus who received Gospel/Bible
  • Mohammad who received Quran

We Muslims believe on every Prophet and if we decline any of them then we will not be a Muslim. So it is must for us to respect every Prophet.

There is always one religion of Allah it is just we Human who named that religion and made it different. Every Prophet came with the same message, There is only one Lord, Pray to him only and believe me as His Messenger.

Like we need to update our applications whenever there is new version available so in same way religion use to update too as time passes by and Human became wise and wiser. The last version of the religion is Islam.

You will find answer to every question in the Quran and Hadith and in Islam.

This is the reason why all religions have similarities between them. There are many things similar in Quran and Bible same Quran and Tarot cause these are all from the same source who is Allah. It is us humans who have corrupted the religion. None of us follow our religion truly whether we are Muslim, Christian or Jew we don’t  know even 20% of our religion and still we point to  other religions without any kind of information. We don’t have even information of our religion yet we point to others religion. This is bad. We must stop this. First learn your own religion truly and properly, then learn others religion and then only you can point on others religion after knowing their religion truly but till then please stop it. We all are creation of same creator so stop making fun of each other, stop hating each other.

Christianity and Islam, are they really that different?

on Thursday, May 24, 2012

You have to admit, whenever you read such title “Christianity and Islam” you predict that the article would be comparing between the two religions, telling you which one is better, and what are the differences, and how wrong is Islam, or how wrong is Christianity. As if it is some kind of competition. Well, I am glad to tell you that this is not that kind of article. I will not tell you to leave Islam and join Christianity because Islam is so and so, and I will not tell you to leave Christianity and join Islam because Christianity is so and so.

I am totally against such comparisons, I see a lot of programs on T.V whether Islamic channels or Christian Channels, they devote their time to prove how the other religion is wrong instead of focusing on their own religion. In order to prove that you are right, you don’t have to prove others wrong, all you need to do is practice your religion in a way that would make people notice how good it is, if it is their will to come to your religion, so be it, if they don’t want, then it is up to them. Would Islam or Christianity become greater if people join them? Of course not, these religions are great without anyone joining or switching to them, they are both the word of god. All you have to do to serve your religion, practice it as your book tells you, preach how great it is, only then, you will be serving your religion, not by attacking other people’s religions and religious beliefs.

So, I have decided instead of building walls by showing the differences, I would build bridges and show similarities between Christianity and Islam, and this is what we all should do. Differences keep us far from each other, similarities brings us together. For instance, if you watch the news about the Middle East, then you must have seen Muslims screaming the word “Allah”, some people actually think that Allah is the Muslim God, while in fact, “Allah” is simply the Arabic translation of God, they are praying to God, but in their language it is “Allah”. Did you know that as a western Christian, you pray to Allah as well, in the Holy Bible, God is translated “Allah” because they are both the same meaning.

Another thing, both religions are religions of peace, whatever extremists do, it is their own doing, they are not following the Holy Qur’an or the Holy Bible, they only take it to gain power and use it as a cover for their actions. Don’t you think for a moment that any of God’s Holy books would tell someone to kill an innocent man, or molest a young boy, this is not God’s words, this is our own doing. We need to know the difference between two things, the word of God and what humans do; it’s our human nature that does these evil things in the name of God.
