The trend of FM in Pakistan has reached more audience in the recent years. Some of the channels are doing greatly well in terms of their content. The major goal is to connect the people together for the peace and prosperity of the country. In order to see working, some of the programs on different channels are analyzed in this regard such as FM 103 is broadcasted from Lahore and adds to its list series of entertaining and musical programs.

The riveting show The Quddus Mastana Love show is broadcasted on FM 103 on an everyday basis spills content related to beautiful essence of love. We should step ahead and promote tolerance in our society by spreading the word rather just clinging onto the love of a spouse or the mate.

Another show, Drive Through with Fiza Alam, The RJ Fiza Alam is very popular amongst the youth, the program plays songs on the request of the callers and songs are of their choices. The program depicts moods of our youth and the hot topics circulating. It prohibits gossips and back biting and focus on giving away sweet messages.

The callers are of different ages since the RJ is a girl, so it’s very obvious that the majority of the callers are of the guys who like to crack the jokes around and tweak the RJ to get sweet advice.

RJ Fiza Alam covers all topics usually related to the contribution into our society, heartfelt messages are sent across the country and goodwill is kept alive for quite some time now. Among the suggestion, which can be given to the program, is that most of the songs which are played should belong to Pakistan. First and foremost, we must boost up our own music industry. Once we are in love with our very own music only than outsiders will absorb the heat and zeal of our music industry.

Similarly, calls should focus on requests of our own music industry as once in a while they should boost our music. Most of the time, the callers drag their calling time, there must be a clear criteria of how to make a call and what is entertaining for the listeners. Topics discussed should be useful to all the listeners rather than just focusing on personal issues.

Head over heels, RJ Sophie Anjam, the riveting and sassy hosting of the show has a wagged tail of fans and enormous callers who can’t resist calling the show to discuss various topics. The show indicates how women are equally important in the Pakistani society nowadays, they are allowed to speak out their mind and heart. They can raise their voices. The show provides all opportunities by discussing many topics, and especially patriotism carries immense importance to boost the moral of the general public.

The content of the show focus on social hurdles and difficulties being faced by people these days, many topics are discussed with the callers. This gathers variety of opinion from different callers and thus makes the show worth listening on regular basis.

Callers must also be prepared to give away their opinions about what to be discussed as it’s a show for the people. People should contribute rather just go with the flow. The show is very entertaining, and topics are discussed in details. As for the playing of the songs, they usually have a prepared list of songs from which the callers choose the song, according to their mood and taste.

Moreover, such programs invite new topics from the common people. One aspect has revealed that people in general run away from the topics related to politics in Pakistan. The topics related to politics are covered on all leading main stream TV channels, therefore, such topics are avoided on FM.

FM Radio in Pakistan surely needs to work on certain issues where it can further promote quality in its content. The people greatly connect themselves with ongoing programs, therefore, it must include more topics which highlights reasons behind the problems of the society.

Recently, I came across an interesting radio show highlighting “the misconceptions people have about different countries and the people living there”. The show was on air from Norway and was hosted by a woman named Veronica. She interviewed different people from America, Egypt, Mexico and Norway trying to showcase the misconceptions and the problems people face when they visit other countries.

She mentioned that most Americans believe that “Muslims are terrorists” and its clichéd. On the other hand Muslims and Arabs have this view that All Americans and Christians are evil and they are not good people, as they hate Muslims.

She discussed this issue with an American who was there in Egypt. He told her that people here in Egypt are welcoming, and he loved the hospitality and respect people gave him. Yes, people here feel that Americans are not always good, but there is a difference between American politics and an individual. Moreover, he stated that yes, there are problems, but it’s not that difficult to survive.

Later in the show, she interviewed Ehab, who is working as a blogger for Muslim Academy. He was expressive in telling her that Muslim Academy is a unique platform that provides people with an opportunity to come and discuss the misconceptions. The mission of the organization is to foster brotherhood through mutual understanding. Ehab is a Christian living in Egypt; he elaborated that he was not harassed or oppressed by anyone here in Egypt. He can easily go to church and can practice his religion. He highlighted the fact that yes there are problems with the minorities and people in America think that we in Egypt live in Pyramids and use camels for transportation, as this is what the media usually shows.

A Muslim student from Norway explained the fact that people here in the middle east and even in Egypt feel that all the European girls are sluts, which is actually wrong, but they have made their perceptions on the basis of what they watch in movies and on TV. People in America and in Europe are not like that. They also have Muslim friends and many Muslims are living a comfortable life in America without being harassed.
While interviewing a Mexican, she asked the same question to which he replied saying that, “many people feel that we are drug dealers.” So, yes people have their own perceptions and at times it is difficult to snub.

To be laconic, one could say that this show highlights the various misconceptions people have about each other across the globe. What we all have to do is to make sure we look at the positives, we all should try and understand each other by resolving all the misconceptions that we have. The epitome of a neutral platform and a place where both westerners and Muslims can come and discuss their issues and can resolve them by peaceful mutual talks is “Muslim Academy”. Muslim Academy is an organization with an aim to narrow down the distances between the people of west and Muslims.

Shockjock Alan Jones has been unsuccessful in his latest attempt to have a lawsuit claiming he racially vilified Sydney's Muslims three days before the Cronulla riots in 2005, dismissed.

In those proceedings, father-of-eight Sam Ekermawi, of Moorebank, claims Jones vilified Muslims when he derided "Lebs", "wogs" and "Middle Eastern" people in his breakfast program on 2GB on December 8, 2005.

Jones read out SMS text messages that had been circulating, allegedly triggered by the assault of two volunteer surf lifesavers by men of Middle Eastern appearance on December 4.

It is claimed the text messages were encouraging people to attend a protest rally on December 11, the day of the riots. One message allegedly said: "Come to Cronulla this weekend to take revenge." "This Sunday every Aussie in the Shire get down to North Cronulla to support the Leb and wog bashing day," it is claimed the message said.

It is alleged that Jones also read an email on air, it said: "Alan, it's not just a few Middle Eastern bastards at the weekend, its thousands. Cronulla is a very long beach and it's been taken over by this scum. It's not a few causing trouble. It's all of them, it's an attitude that you feel whenever you go there, it's just straight out racism against the skippies".

Three days later an estimated 5000 Sydney youths gathered at the beach and fights erupted. The violence spread to Cronulla railway station and on to a train. Police arrested 51 people and charged them with assault and riot.

More than a dozen men served jail time, including a Penrith man who assaulted Lebanese men while wearing a singlet with the words "Mohammed was a camel-raping faggot".

Jones and 2GB tried to have Mr Ekermawi's case thrown out on a legal technicality. The attempt failed, with the three-member appeal panel of the Administrative Decisions Tribunal ruling on November 30 that the case should continue.

Mr Ekermawi first lodged his complaint with the Anti-Discrimination Board in 2005, and seven years later he is still waiting for it to be heard in the ADT.

It is not the only case to claim Jones and 2GB racially vilified Muslims prior to the Cronulla riots. In October Jones and 2GB were ordered to apologise on air for a separate racist rant where he called Sydney's Lebanese Muslims "vermin" who "infest our shores" and "rape" and "pillage" our nation.

He has not yet apologised.
