United Kingdom a place of peace and pleasures for Muslims

on Tuesday, April 16, 2013

There are many Muslim families settled in the UK, and they are not only well established but also are very content with the life in the United Kingdom. According to a census made in 2011, there are about 2.7 million Muslims residing in the United Kingdom. In this way, it is the second largest population in the United Kingdom after Christians. Since the formation of the UK, Islam has been ever present and growing in popularity, but it was not legally recognized until the Act of Trinitarian  was passed in 1812.

Though the Muslims in England are some time accused of their beliefs, dress, hijab and attitude, England seems to be the best place for Muslim families to live as indicated by several factors. The most important indicator for this claim is that here the Muslims families do not only enjoy their lives, but Islam itself is growing in the area, and is recognized as the fastest growing religion in the United Kingdom. The numbers of conversions to Islam are growing every year. According to one report, there are 100,000 converts to Islam in the UK and about 66% of the converts are females.

The Muslim community in the UK feels pleasure living in a European environment. Almost all of the families live at a high standard. They are either involved in their own businesses, or they are working full time jobs. A Muslim female expressed the living in the UK as “though my parents are not native to this land, but this is my homeland as I was born here and I love to live here”.

According to the current socio-economic position of most of the Muslim countries, many of their citizens are migrating either to the UK or other European countries. A man who immigrated to the UK in 2006 explained his feelings as “I am basically from Syria, but I found more economic activity here despite the fact that I am safer and more in peace of mind”.

According to a report published in 2012 in Guardian, about 83% of Muslims feel contended and proud for living in the UK and they feel good to be British citizens, and about 82% of the total Muslim population want to continue their lives in the UK, and more surprisingly they want to live in diverse and mixed communities instead of just being confined to a Muslim neighborhood. There are many cross marriages between Muslims and native English and they are living a very pleasant lifes with children and grandchildren in some cases. Muslims in Britain do enjoy the liberty of expression, equality of human rights, stability of business and jobs, security of their families, beliefs and assets, and above all the clean environment which all are actually just in accord with the real ideology of Islam.

Abu Qatada’s Deportation from the United Kingdom

on Sunday, April 7, 2013

Abu Qatada Al-filistini, the Jordanian born Palestinian has been in and out of news since the past decade or so. He was brought into the limelight for the first time back in 2002 when the government of England detained him for alleged terrorist links under the anti terrorism law. Born as Omar Mahmood Osman, Qatada has been suspected with links to al-Qaeda since the past ten years though he has never been put to trial.

Regularly imprisoned in the United Kingdom on accounts of threats to national security, Qatada has also been denied leaving and appealing against the deportation on different occasions too. More recently, his name has been brought up in the news again in lieu of his deportation issues and the stance of Home Secretary of the UK.

Back in May 2012, Abu Qatada was bound to be shipped out of the UK when the European Commission of Human Rights refused heeding to his claim against his deportation to Jordan. Though later on, the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC) upheld his appeal against the deportation rule; Home Secretary Theresa May insisted that the court of appeals overturns the decision of SIAC.

According to the hearing submitted in London by May’s team, Qatada should not be immediately deported to Jordan where he can be put on trial on counts of terrorism, that he was convicted for back in 1999. The home secretary is firmly against the immigration rule that lets Abu Qatada stay in the United Kingdom on will, as in her words he is a “truly dangerous” criminal who has skipped the law only due to “errors of law” that need to be rectified. May believes that he should be sent to Jordan so that he can be put to trial.

The decision taken by SIAC was based on the belief that if Qatada is deported back to Jordan it will be in denial of his basic human rights. Qatada’s lawyer Edward Fitzgerald advocated that he might not get a fair hearing because they had found “real risk” evidences of torture. A stance that was denied by James Eadie, appearing for Theresa May on account that Jordanian constitution “prohibits clearly and expressly the use of torture and the reliance on any statement obtained under duress, including torture”, so it was only fair that he should be sent back and face justice. But Fitzgerald still insists that the radical cleric cannot be sent back to a country with a “dubious human rights record”.

Qatada is now back in custody awaiting the verdict, a hearing for his bail arrangements was also due on Thursday, but it has been delayed probably in anticipation of the other the decision to deportation case. Though the panel of three judges is due to pass their verdict now, it is expected that there will be more appeal regardless of whom the court of appeals decides to stay in favor.

NORTH KOREA THREATENS UNITED STATES OF A PRE-EMPTIVE NUCLEAR STRIKE

on Thursday, March 28, 2013

Relations between United States and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, or North Korea, have climbed from one step to another since the era of the Korean War. Support of the US to South Korea in the War left a mark on the hearts of North Korean people that has never been lifted. In fact, the hostility reached a burning point earlier when North Korea threatened its ‘‘aggressors’’ including United States with a preemptive NUCLEAR STRIKE to defend its mainland and warned United Nations “not to make another big blunder”. This happened soon after the United Nations voted for tougher sanctions against North Korea in response to its last month nuclear test.

North Korean leadership has always adopted an aggressive stance against its enemies. Korea has threatened its adversaries several times in the past to evade or delay any sanctions. The latest intimidation of a nuclear strike demonstrates a similar response by North Korea when earlier U.S. and China voted for intensified sanctions against Korea in the United Nations. The proposal of latest sanctions intends to impede Korean régime in its nuclear program bringing to a halt. But the result of these sanctions may be contradictory to what has been aimed to achieve in the form of an amplified retaliation by North Korea.

Nuclear history of both nations date back decades. The US positioned its nukes in South Korea to maintain regional deterrence in 1958. The oppressed North Korea sought help from both Russia and China in assistance to develop nuclear weapons but faced refusal. Therefore retorted by front line deployment of its conventional forces and constructing massive underground strongholds against a possible US attack. But North Korea never backed out of its supreme goal of developing nuclear arms conducting its first successful test in 2006.

North Korea has always perceived the presence of United States on the South Korean soil as a threat to its national security. U.S. has been constantly backing South Korea since the division of the Peninsula. Constant accusations have been made by the North Korea against U.S. and South Korea for their heightened military activities. On the other side, alliance of North Korea with communist Soviet Union and China later followed by development of Nuclear Weapons have restrained U.S. from developing cordial relations with North Korea. U.S. also implemented economic sanctions against North Korea from 1950 lasting in 2008.

Leadership of Korea has always adopted military oriented policies. Most of the development reserves are used for the further strengthening of their military forces. Economy of North Korea has greatly impoverished following their military advancement. According to the UN, about two-third population of North Korea suffer from food insecurity. China is the leading trade partner of North Korea. But collaboration of China with U.S. in United Nations resolution against Korean Nuclear program can hamper the relationship of both countries causing further collapse of Korean economy.

Unlike the past, North Korea may review its aggravated decisions following the involvement of China in the sanctions. Losing an economic giant like China as an ally will prove to be a huge setback to Korea in the future. Table talks always make for a better alternative in the development of international relations than resorting to a military settlement. The devastations of a nuclear war can impinge on the generations to come and a nuclear-free World is the way to a prosperous future.

Popular Tourist Destinations in the United States for Muslims Abroad

on Tuesday, December 18, 2012

Muslims living in the United States are often spotted going to all of the famous destinations of America. When asked, the major reason to go and visit places is to learn about the history and culture of the United States. Muslims living abroad are very much fascinated by the locations in the United States as the media has already transformed the world into a global village by shedding light upon the cultures, traditions and popular locations.

America, being a super power, is advancing all of the time. The technology and landmarks are attracting people around the world. Muslims, while visiting the United States, prefer going to the places which reflect the decency of the culture and people. Muslim culture doesn’t permit skin showing, and Muslim families feel reluctant in going to the places such as beaches or clubs where the westernized life style is showcased.

The major places where Muslims often go are the famous places of America such as New York City’s Statue of Liberty, the Hollywood sign looming over Los Angeles, Times Square and the Hollywood Walk of Fame according to the majority of tourists.

San Francisco is also amongst the highly visited cities. The Golden Gate National Recreation Area and Fisherman’s Wharf are of greater importance for the people to go and enjoy the serenely beautiful locations. Fisherman’s Wharf is fun, its seafood restaurants, rich history, sea lion viewing and various events offer much for families to explore.

Muslim are mostly enticed by the historical and the cultural landmarks in the United States. The areas of interest also includes natural phenomena and landmarks, as well as officially designated entertainment and recreation centers.

As far as the night life is concerned, Muslim families show less interest in going to the clubs and casinos. Drinking of alcohol and spending money in casinos are not in the Muslim interest; therefore, they deliberately discard going to places like these.

Places such as Disney world are amongst the most visited places by Muslims just like other tourists.

Muslims also visit Chicago; it has the world’s tallest building, the Sears Tower, which was the work a Muslim architect. Muslims have contributed a lot into the designs and architecture of many buildings in United States. The area too has many Muslims living there; Chicago has about 80 places for Friday prayers, eight Muslim schools and many other places directed toward Muslims.

Muslims are always reluctant in going to the beaches as the dress code worn there is prohibited in Islam. Muslims do not oppress their ideology, but perform Jihad on their part by refusing to go there. Not to forget, Jihad is also for the eyes as it means to purify one’s self and discard activities that are prohibited in Islam.

Muslims are just like any other group of people. What makes the Muslim community different from others is the list of do’s and don’ts with respect to their religious beliefs. Muslims visit many places in the United States, which brightens their knowledge about the history and the culture of the people of the United States.

Terrorism Activities in United Kingdom

on Sunday, November 25, 2012

Why has man become this inhumane? Killing and shedding innocent blood has become the order of the day. And have such acts added any value to anyone’s lives? They surely do not; therefore, there is no reason that justifies one person to kill the other person. No one seems to be concerned with other people anymore. The effects of a series of attacks have taken route in all the parts of the globe touching all the continents. The UK has shown one of the adverse effects of terrorism.

Guy Fawkes was among the first people to launch his terror attack in Europe in 1600 on November 5. In the year 1970, there were two bomb blasts at the parliament building that ended up killing innocent civilians. This is one of the 25 terror attacks by the group of the terrorists known as the brigade. There was another explosion in 1971 which caused severe injuries to people and death. The explosion took place at the post office tower that is found in London. Among all the terrorist attacks that took place in the 1970s, the Birmingham bombing was the one with the most severe effect because it claimed the life of 21 citizens, and 182 people became seriously injured.

The same trend of terrorism attacks continued to manifest each year through the 1980s in the UK. More deaths were reported from the bomb attacks that were launched in areas where people were crowded. December 1988 marked the worst year in the 1980s in Europe. The Pan Am Flight was unfortunately shattered into pieces when the bomb was planted on the plane inside a suitcase. The terrorists had been found to be from Libya after investigation. In this case, 270 people were ruthlessly killed.

Things did not turn out better in Europe, even in 1990s. Weapons of mass destruction were used by the terrorist groups. Each year never ended without a reported case of terrorism. The year 1993 marked a historic time in Europe. The IRA was used to denote a very large truck bomb. This took place in London and specifically at the Bishopsgate. Although it was only one journalist who was killed, 40 people sustained serious injuries and a damage of close to £1 billion was done. As days went by, the bombs that were heavier and of higher mass started being used.

From 2000 to the present day, things have never changed. A series of attacks in Europe has continued to increase. The worst ever reported case in this period of time was the London bombing that took place on July 5th 2005 where 56 people were killed and 600 people sustained injuries.

Most of these terrorist attacks in Europe have been blamed on the Islamist perpetrators. They provide funding and training for the different terrorist groups in the UK. These terrorist groups have warehouses where they produce ammunition. They also get a supply of weapons from external sources. There are a number of camps that have been established in Europe to train people in their terrorism activities. The government is trying to suppress all the activities of the terrorists all over the UK. A number of people have been arrested for their terrorism activities. Some have been jailed while others are still awaiting trials.

Efforts of United Nation to Solve Kashmir India Conflict

on Saturday, August 25, 2012

Efforts of United Nation to Solve Kashmir India Conflict

United Nations are helping Kashmiri people through every thick and thins of their lives but still the freedom of Kashmiri people is a question which is yet to be answered

United Nations has expressed deep interest to solve the Kashmir India Conflict and has always shown solidarity with the people of Kashmir. After the first war broke out between India and Pakistan in 1947 over Kashmir and no fruitful results came out, India took the matter into the hands of United Nations Security Council on January 1, 1949. Immediately, a ceasefire was ordered between Indian and Pakistani forces. Indian forces took control of most of the area of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan took control of the area what is now called as “Azad Kashmir” by Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir” by the Indians. On January 5, 1948 UNCIP (United Nations Commission for India and Pakistan) further   provided further assistance in the matter by passing Resolutions that the future of Kashmir will be decided by holding a fair and impartial plebiscite. However, both countries failed to stick to the resolution due to a difference in the interpretations of the procedure for plebiscite.

To provide relief to the Kashmiris over the Kashmir India Conflict, in 1951, first post independence elections were held; United Nations passed a resolution that such elections could not be a substitute for plebiscite as in plebiscite a Kashmiri is given full right to choose between Indian or Pakistani authority. Sheikh Abdullah won in these elections but he did not remain fair to Kashmiris and mostly remained with the Indian authorities. All his actions and political moves were related in favor of Indian Union. In 1953, Indian and Pakistani Governments agree to appoint a neutral Plebiscite Administrator by the help of United Nations by the end of 1954.

The services of United Nations to solve the Kashmir India Conflict continues when on 30 October 1956, UN passed a resolution in response to the State Constituent Assembly decision of declaring Kashmir as an integral part of Indian Union. It was declared in the resolution that such resolutions could not decide the future of authority over Kashmir.

Since then, United Nations is providing aids, assistance, and guidance in all the major matters to support the Kashmir India Conflict.  Once again elections were held in 1989 in Kashmir but as they were not justified they give rose to an insurgency in Kashmir. India has also provided some visual proofs to United Nations that these militants are controlled by Pakistan which led to an immediate cessation of some terrorist organizations which Pakistan thought to implement in future. Further in 2008, elections were again held which were declared fair by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Despite the efforts of United Nations to solve the Kashmir India Conflicts, it cannot be resolved until Both India and Pakistan mutually try to solve without considering their own benefits and thinking about Kashmiri people also. The untiring efforts of United Nations seem to be endless, yet there is a question whose answer is still undecided.
