Most of the Muslims are perceived as being violent and extremists, all because of the fact that the first world countries are ignorant about the reality and the wisdom of Islam. From an analytical dimension, it is true that Islam doesn’t teach its followers to engage in such criminal acts. There are a few extremist groups in Islam, but it does not mean that other religions do not have simillar extremist groups. So, why only the Muslims are targeted with a number of stereotypes, which are indeed not complimentary for them? The Arabs are the ones among the Muslims who have always been portrayed quite negatively in Hollywood and all other movies. When you watch a movie which focuses on Arabs, their image is always depicted like those who of the ancient Jews. In other words, Arabs are shown to be sinister and dangerous. In every act of terror, it is always shown that Arabs or Muslims are involved. This is indeed quite unjust from the side of the movie makers. For example, if Italians have a number of Mafia groups, then is it justified to call all Italians as being Mafia members? The same applies to the Jews, as well. For example, if a number of Jews are financiers, then is it right to categorize all of them as being a part an international conspiracy?

Movies are indeed a source of entertainment and fun for all, but at what cost this fun is being offered to the audience? Depicting the Arabs and Muslims in a stereotypical manner is a testament of cruelty and injustice. Motion pictures have the power to transform the views of the public, so it is better to make good use of them. It is the time for these countries, marked for their prejudicial and stereotypical attitudes towards the Muslims, to change their views. No matter how many people would agree with me on this, but we can never undermine the fact that Muslims were the ones who laid the foundations of scientific thinking in the world. Moreover, their early physicists are the ones to be credited for the advancements that are now being made in these fields by making use of their concepts. Tagging the Muslims as being intellectual and lazy, is quite illogical, as it is not coherent with the contributions of the Muslims for science, art, mathematics, astronomy, geology and in all other fields. Most of the Muslims are nothing more than ordinary people who want to enjoy peaceful lives. They also have ambitions and talent. Not to forget, that some of the best doctors and pathologists in the world happen to have their origins in the Muslim nations. It is surely corroborated now that humanity is the thing we should respect as the Arabs and Muslims are also human beings. The one thing that makes us different from the animals is our humanity, so it is better if we respect it.

Although a number of media documentaries and movies are being made, most of which denigrate the Arab Muslims in a number of different ways, still the media syndicators of Muslim countries do not try to get in touch with the movie makers in order to discuss the ridicule against the Muslims which is being done. Now here I would like to share a saying of Martin Luther King Jr. in which he said in order to shape public opinion, we all need to be movers and earth shakers. In this saying he did not mean that one needs to commit violent acts in order to force the world to accept their existence and respect them. The real purpose behind this saying is to mobilize ourselves in a manner that the whole world would eventually change its views towards you. Islam is indeed what we present to others in our character.

Another prime reason for the stereotyping is that most of the European and American Journalists ignore the importance of religion, all because they have no understanding about it. Moreover, they also do this in line to their false interpretations. There are also a number of journalists who prefer to make delineating remarks against Islam just to generate a huge fan following including the ones whose views are similar to theirs. It is also a fact that the relationship of the media and religion has always been weak and there are not chances of improvement in the upcoming years. Furthermore, it is also an alarming fact that people these days get influenced by media and journalists quite easily. In other words, the one reason for which the journalists have been able to shape the views of the people about Islam is because of the people’s lack of knowledge about the religion.

On the other hand, even if some journalists who prefer to write in favor of Islam, in their reports, they are labeled as “Anti-Israel” and Anti-Americans due to which they are forced to change their views. Europeans are now convinced that Islam is nothing more than an irrational religion and that the religions they follow, if any, are far more superior and rational. Peter Arnett, who worked for CNN, said in this regard that the media and journalist elites prefer to follow the policies of their governments, so it is right to assume that the media has certain limits to its freedom of expression. In other words, European media is under the control of their government in terms of all religious matters, especially when these matters and issues are linked to Islam.

Yet another reason for which most of the European citizens hold negative views of Islam lies in the stereotypical pictures about Muslims which have been waxed in their minds from the side of the media elites. When Oklahoma City had been bombed than in a matter of a few hours, the government officials had started making claims that Arab Terrorists had been involved. What’s really deplorable here is that a number of Muslims had been arrested without any sort of evidence. So, you know you all know, how the media functions and how the government plays its role in shaping the public opinion through the use of the enslaved journalists.

In case of any conflict in the world, a number of wars occur at economic, religious, moral and informational fronts. The real action that takes place in this regard is through the presentation of biased information about a particular group of people. The same applies for the presentation of misleading information about Islam, which is now at the forefront of being criticized by many parts around the world. What we need to learn here is the fact that the media, the government and all other institutions are using our misinformed minds in order to change our views about Muslims. Recently, the organization of Islamic conference has always been pointing out towards the increasing threats Muslims all over the world face. In response to these threats, a number of Islamic militant organizations are also improvising.

One of the most important things that the west needs to realize is that they face no threat from the majority of Muslims. Moreover, there are only a few among the millions who hold extremist views about the western people. So, it is better here not to stereotype the whole religion as it is going to place more damages than mends. The terrorists, in reality, do not have any belief or faith. The only thing that thrives them is their lust for power and recognition which they haven’t achieved. The Europeans need to acknowledge the fact that a number of Muslim countries like Pakistan, Turkey and Iran have now mobilized in order to turn down the hype the terrorists have created. In other words, the Muslims themselves are now terrorized by the presence of terrorists. On a daily basis, a number of Muslims are giving their lives in order to fight terrorism and the rise of the extremist factors. This is something which the Europeans together and the Americans need to acknowledge about Muslims.

The best way to show our gratitude towards Muslims is by removing the stereotypes that are used to define Islam. If all Muslims were of extremist mindsets, then why they give their lives in fighting the terrorists? War on terror is being fought by Muslims, as well. The terrorists gather their strength from the divide they have created between the west and the rest. It is an integral component of their policies to induce a hatred among Islam and all other religions, which are not so different after all.

Islamophobia and stereotyping are going to do no good for this world than just creating a polarization among the societies. Till now millions have lost their lives in lines to this war and hatred which in reality, is a planned movement initiated by the political elites of the modern societies. They – themselves – are the only ones who are at an advantage from this polarization, and the peaceful citizens of all the nations are the ones who are suffering. We are all the centers of this problem, and one day we will realize the fact that how much our children are going to suffer. The only solution to this rising issue lies in developing respect and love for all others as it is the only through which we can guarantee a safe future for all.
