Here’s A Quick Way to Learn Tajweed and Perform Fardh-e-Kifayaah

on Wednesday, June 13, 2012

The meaning of the word Tajweed is to improve something or make it better. It is the application and knowledge of the rules of the recitation of Qur’an like as the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) recited.

To learn science, you need to get adherence to its principles first. In the same manner if you want to Learn Tajweed, you ought to understand the principles of tajweed. Tajweed has two definitions such as linguistic definition through which you could understand the meaning of Tajweed as “Betterment”; its second definition is applied definition, which resembles that, articulating each letter through its original articulation point as well as providing the letter its distinctive rights and dues.

The holy words of the Qur’an and Honorable Hadiths are its formation. It preserves from faulty mistakes of pronunciation of Qur’an during recitation. Due to its relation to Allah’s words, it is one of the most honored sciences in the Islamic Law Sciences, which are related to the Qur’an. As per practical point, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) set its rules as the Qur’an revealed upon him from Allah, with Tajweed, to teach his familiars then to their followers and now it came to us through these chains. As per scientific point, the rule setters of Tajweed are scholars of the Qur’an, like as Abu Ubaid Al-Qasim bin Sallam.

Its knowledge is fardh-e-kifayaah, which means that some Muslims must Learn Tajweed, whereas its applications are fardh-e-Ain, which applies to all Muslims men and women who even memorized only a Surah of the Qur’an. Its rules are guarding and preserving the Qur’an from distortion. After the spread of Islam, Muslims became afraid as Non Arabs mixed with Arabs and Arabic language becomes corrupted due to intermixing. To preserve the Qur’anic recitation from mistakes and to guarantee the integrity of pronunciation of the Qur’an, it became mandatory to put down Tajweed rules.

Its principles chiefly divided in four parts such as:-

  1. Knowledge about articulation points of letters.
  2. Knowledge of each letter’s characteristic.
  3. Knowledge of changing of rules on every change of the order of letters.
  4. Exercising and repetition and tongue exercise.

Tajweed’s application as well as its rules can only be studied independently by reciting and listening or under the supervision of a qualified Qur’anic teacher so that your mistakes could be corrected accordingly. Unfortunately, many people do not have the proper knowledge of Tajweed. During the period of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), there was no requirement to study Tajweed as their talking was natural and as per the application of Tajweed because it was normal for them. At this time, colloquial Arabic is altered radically from classical Arabic in which Qur’an revealed, and now Arabs are willing to Learn Tajweed just like non Arabs.

If you want to Learn Tajweed, to recite Qur’an properly and as per applications of Tajweed, you ought to find qualified Qur’anic teacher who listens you and indicate and correct your mistakes. The qualified teacher of the Qur’an will also guide you about Arabic letters, vowels and proper way of practice so that you could fix your mistakes quite easily.
