The Norwegian Defence League (NDL) has published a list of hundreds of Muslim companies and organizations on its website. The list had been compiled on the basis of listings in the Public Entity Registry. Lars Johnny Aardal, deputy leader of the NDL, said that it was published "to show the extent of Islam and Muslims in Norway".

Senior scientist at the Norwegian Center for Studies of Holocaust and Religious Minorities, Terje Emberland, told VG that such a list had only been made once before in Norway, when an anti-semite in the 1930s published a list of Jewish businesses in Norway. He also said that "In this way, the NDL clearly exposes its character, and aligns with the fascist and racist tradition to which it belongs."

Following the 2011 Norway attacks on 22 July, it was revealed that the admitted terrorist Anders Behring Breivik had formerly been a member of the NDL. Breivik has been identified as a member of the NDL under the pseudonym "Sigurd Jorsalfar" (after the medieval Norwegian crusader-king Sigurd the Crusader).

The first documented initiative for establishing a Norwegian sister organization to the EDL had also originated in a forum post by Breivik on the Norwegian website Document.no on December 6, 2009. There Breivik proposes to establish a Norwegian version of the English Defence League.

Minister of Culture Hadia Tajik concludes that the hijab will not become part of the Norwegian police uniform or be used in the court system in the near future.

Despite the Norwegian Faith and Ethics Policy Committee's recommendation to make the hijab legal to wear for police officers and judges while at work, Tajik rejected the committee's proposal in Parliament Monday.

A majority of 12 out of 15 members of the committee suggested to permit the use of hijab in the Norwegian police force and among judges, but according to Tajik no changes wil be made to the current ban in the near future.

About 40 people gathered for an anti-Islam demonstration in Oslo, and were met with jeers and chants of "no Nazis on our streets" from a larger group of counterdemonstrators.

The protest was staged by the Norwegian Defence League, a group inspired by the larger English Defence League, which has carried out rowdy anti-Islam protests in Britain. The defence leagues say they're not racists but "patriots" opposing a perceived Islamization of Europe.

Police spokesman Finn Belle said Saturday's demonstration was peaceful and police successfully kept the two sides apart. He said three counterdemonstrators were detained for disturbing the peace and were fined before being released.

The anti-racist website Vepsen reports that the NDL demonstration was addressed by Steve Simmons (Chris Redmond), head of the English Defence League's European operation. Vepsen counted 47 people at the rally. By contrast, the counter-protest drew several hundred participants.

Two controversial anti-multicultural organisations warn they will hold a protest on 15 December near Grønland, eastern Oslo.

It is thought the arrangement will kick off at Klosterenga Sculpture Park, an area with five mosques and high immigrant concentration. Domestic and international individuals will reportedly be holding speeches.

The Norwegian Defence League(NDL) and Stop the Islamisation of Europe (SIOE) are joining forces for the event, according to leftist newspaper Klassekampen.

"We want to wake up Norwegians and so-called moderate Muslims to show the extremism in their own religion," NDL board member Kjetil Kjønli explained, refuting allegations by Norwegian Centre Against Racism leader Kari Helene Partapuoli the NDL deliberately picked the Grønland area out of contentiousness.

Ms Partapuoli's organisation will be holding a march on the same day. This is in cooperation with several LO (Confederation of Trade Unions) associations, Oslo SV (Socialist Left Party), SU (Socialist Youth League of Norway, and RU (Red Youth), amongst others, to "show everything that’s positive about the multicultural society," she declared.

The Centre has strongly distanced itself from planned counterdemonstrations by Ny SOS Rasisme allegedly aimed at stopping the NDL.

Klassekampen also reports some 114 NDL supporters have signed up for next weekend's demonstration.

Police say about 40 far-right radicals have held a peaceful rally to protest what they call the "Islamization of Norway and Europe".

The demonstration in the southwestern city of Stavanger was held Saturday by the Norwegian Defence League, an anti-Islam organization closely associated with the English Defence League.

Saturday's demonstration opposed a recent parliamentary decision to amend the country's constitution to separate the state from the church. That means Norway no longer has a state religion and that all religions will be treated equally.

Police spokesman Henning Andersen says there were no arrests during the two-hour rally but that some counter protesters were fined for disobeying officers' orders to leave the area.

According to the NDL the purpose of the demonstration was "to protest against the norwegian government changing the constitution to make Islam equal to christianity in Norway and to protest against islamization of Norway and Europe".

The event was given a boost by sympathetic press coverage. Aftenbladet carried a very soft interview with the NDL's new leader Rune Hauge (Leo Baardsen), who explained that he had organised the demonstration because "I want my descendants to grow up where we still have a democracy, with freedom of expression, and can escape being forcibly converted to Islam to avoid being persecuted – and ultimately killed – due to the fact that Muslims have become a majority". (Muslims currently make up 2.1% of the population of Norway.) And the Stavanger newpaper Rogalands Avis provided a platform for a spokesperson from Stop Islamisation of Norway, which jointly sponsored the protest, to claim that they were expecting as many as 600 people to attend, including supporters from Denmark, Sweden and Germany.

However, a report by NRK estimates that as few as 20-30 people turned out. By contrast, between 800 and 1,000 counter-protestors including local Socialist Left Party politician Hallgeir Langeland joined a Festival Against Racism in the town square, while another smaller counter-demonstration organised by New SOS Racism was held at the same location as the NDL rally.

Arne Tumyr, leader of Stop Islamisation of NorwayNorwegian far-right leaders told the court trying Anders Behring Breivik on Tuesday the mass killer was right to fear his nation's "planned annihilation" by Muslims, even if his method of combating it was wrong.

"The constitution has been cancelled, we're at war now," Tore Tvedt, the founder of far-right group Vigrid told the court. Tvedt, 69, with greying hair and moustache, addressed the court in a firm voice. "When they get their will, the Nordic race will be exterminated," he said of Muslim immigration.

Breivik's defence team called Tvedt and other far-right supporters to the stand to support their argument that Breivik is sane since his ideology is shared by others, even if their numbers are few.

"Take a look at society in Pakistan, look at the 57 Islamic states. People there live in a regime of terror and slavery, that's what we had under national socialism and in the Soviet Union, people were trapped in a terror state," Arne Tumyr, the head of an anti-Islam group told court.

Tall, thin and with a full head of hair, Tumyr, 79, spoke softly and insisted on testifying to the court standing up. "If nothing is done, Norway will be taken over by Muslims," he said.

There are currently 106,735 Muslims living in Norway, out of a total population of 4,973,000 – 2.1%. Clearly there is still some way to go before the country is "taken over by Muslims".
