When Karzai was interviewed in the presidential palace in Kabul in Afghanistan, he mentioned that Mullah Omar has all the potential to become the president of the country. He also alleged that he is fit for the presidential post which enhanced his hopes of winning the position this year. With the statement of Karzai, the mindset of the Afghans ischanging as they are thinking of voting for him, for this superior and responsible post.

The constitution of Afghans is valid for them and at the same time Talibans can take the advantage form this in casting their vote in the elections. Karzai also revealed this fact in the interview.

Mullah Muhammad Omar, the supreme and powerful commander in Afghanistan holds equal importance among Talibans. It is reported that Omar is responsible for $10 million bonus from the US. Being a strong and robust talismatic figure for all the rebels in the last 10 years war against foreigners and the Afghan troops.

Hamid Karzai, the president of Afghanistan wants Mr. Omar to contest for the next elections. It is noted that Omar has been missing for many days while he was interviewed for the German daily newspaper. He wants the people of the Taliban lay down the arms and ammunition and involve in the elections deeply. Karzai took all the pain in travelling to Qatar to discuss this matter. Recently, the Afghan government permitted the Talibans to start their office in Qatar with a condition to cease terrorism, and any association with al Qaeda has to be broken.

While discussing this issue, the president mentioned that the problem to fight against terrorism lies with Pakistan and the real problem has not been discussed yet. Coming to elections for the year 2014, he mentioned that these elections will be the turning point in the history of Afghanistan which will try to infiltrate the troops from entering the country.

As the term of the president is coming to an end, he is not eligible to contest in the elections according to the rules and regulations of the constitution. Mr. Karzai also complained that his country and the government have been disliked by the countries in the West. He mentioned that he wants to improve the relationship and will strive forwards for it. Further, he added that his country should not be considered as mere objects and people should treat them with respect as allies.

Karzai also visited few other places including the Gulf Arab. The US ally conciliated the fights and conflicts in the countries with Muslim populations and in Arab. This was followed by a discussion to come into an agreement to settle all the issues related to Afghanistan, Talibans, Pakistan and the United States.

All these efforts will certainly improve the current status of the country and the future prospects looks good as Mr. Omar is likely to win the elections.

Mr. Pierre Borghi has been working as a photographer in Afghanistan. He has been associated with the French non-government organization known as Solidaritès Internationale. This is an organization that helps people out in times of man-made and natural disasters. He has been involved with this organization since 2011 and has worked till 2012, before returning home. He went back to Kabul, Afghanistan in November 2012, to establish himself as a photographer. All didn’t go as planned and he was taken captive by unknown men.

It is unconfirmed yet who were his captors. It is also a matter of much speculation as to why he was captured as there have been no claims of any of the criminally active groups in the area. The last French prisoners to be released were Stephane Taponier and Herve Ghesquiere. They were taken prisoner on the 30th of December 2009 and released 18 months later. It was hinted that they were released in exchange for a ransom paid for by their government, but both the French and Afghan governments denied this vehemently.

The details as to how Pierre Borghi was captured are unavailable as of now, but it has been confirmed that the captors were armed. He was found by a guard of the patrol police group named Afghan Public Protection Force. This was confirmed by Shoaib Sharifi, Director of APPF. APPF was founded by the Afghan Government in 2009 to grant protection to its local and foreign citizens. Borghi was found near a check post near Maidan Shar, in the province of Wardak. How he got there is a mystery, but it is said that he managed to escape from his captors. Unnamed officials in Kabul have claimed that he had been released, along with other French prisoner, and he had not escaped. From there he was brought safely to Kabul by the patrolling group of guards. On arriving, he was said to have requested for a cup of coffee, appearing mostly unruffled.

Wardak is a province that is located near the center of Afghanistan. The capital of the province is Maidan Shar, the place where Pierre Borghi was found. Wardak is registered as a “High Risk” province by the Ministry of Interiors in Afghanistan as a result of much Taliban activity in the area. The rate of crime, including kidnapping, is very high in this province. The victims of kidnapping do not include foreign citizens only, but wealthy local citizens, as well. The kidnappers are members of either Taliban or Al Qaeda faction or even common local criminals. It is unclear as to which of these groups are responsible for the kidnapping of Mr. Pierre Borghi. The details of his time in imprisonment are also unavailable.

He arrived in Paris Charles de Gaulle airport on a flight from Delhi. His family has met up with him and has confirmed that Borghi appears to be in good health. They met with him in a private room in the airport where a ministry official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of France was also present.

While it may have ended well for Borghi, we can only hope that Afghanistan will become a friendlier place for its citizens as well as foreign visitors.

The new era in the history of Afghanistan has been written recently with the introduction of women police at the national level. Since 2001, Afghanistan has been governed by the NATO and American forces. As we all know, the Taliban didn’t allow women to come out of their home and do a job to earn pay independently. Five years ago, when women were empowered to come join all fields of life, some women in the police department have become victims of sexual harassment by the people and by their own colleagues as well. Now, the fear is high again because the dress of women is being changed from burqa to olive green dress. Women in the police force now fear about their jobs as due to sexual harassment and discrimination, the government can be forced to ban the women police and they could lose their jobs.

The president of Afghanistan Mr. Hamid Karzai has a target of adding 5000 women police in the country until the year 2014 when NATO forces are set to leave the country. Still the ratio of women police as compared to male police is around 1.25 percent, which is quite low. Until now, 1,850 women are working for the police in Afghanistan. As we all know, Afghanistan is a male dominant society, and it will be much harder for the government to deploy more women police in the country. The positive thing, which the government of Afghanistan has done, is that they broadcast the women in police dress holding the guns on television, which is popular amongst the women in country.

When the question is asked about the future of women police after the departure of NATO troops from the country, women police are curious. They think that after the departure of NATO, the Taliban will come back and women will have to wear burqas again. It is also a fear in the minds of women that again they will be restricted to their homes and won’t be able to come out without a male partner.

Since the 2001 war with the Taliban, the women’s role has been changing vastly in society, and now they enjoy the rights of education, voting and getting jobs.  Some  women in the society are angry about Hamid Karzai’s decision to hold talks with the Taliban to make peace in the country as they think it will create conflict in the society as the Taliban are not ready for women to have rights.

Over the past few years, the casualties have increased to an enormous amount in Afghanistan. These causalities include the U.S. and Afghani soldiers, including the innocent people. The series of attacks started again when the NATO troops turned over the security responsibility of Nangarhar to Afghani forces. The most recent was reported in the Jalalabad air field, where a car suicide attack took place on a U.S.-Afghan base. The target in this case was to hit the militants. The soldiers were wearing coalition uniforms.

The attack was done on Sunday, shortly before sunrise. The reports were conflicting over the number of casualties that actually occurred. According to the ISAF, the explosions resulted in one soldier’s death and several soldiers injured but according to the officials, this attack has resulted in five casualties including three afghan soldiers and two civilians. The attack was done at three different points at the base near the Jalalabad Airfield.

The first car bomb was detonated early in the morning at 5 am at the front gate of the base. The second bomb was detonated when insurgents performed a car blast, then the U.S.–Afghan troops opened fire. A third car bomb was detonated outside the base’s perimeters.

The Central News Network is one of the most reliable news network in the world and many other news networks use CNN as a reference. CNN is one of the oldest and most reliable networks in the media. A CNN reporter interviewed the eye witness of this blast and, according to him, at least 14 Afghan soldiers and four civilians were wounded in the blast. All three bombers and six gunmen were killed in the counter attack. The Taliban spokesman claimed the responsibility when he gave a call to CNN. He also confirmed the twenty casualties of the U.S.-Afghan troops. Mujahid, the spokesman of the Taliban, also sent an e-mail to CNN and affirmed the same information regarding the suicide attack on the base.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which is a border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, is a home to a number of terrorist groups, including members of the Haqqani Network. This area is also considered a residence for the suicide bombers and the insurgents in this attack. The number of violations is increasing in Afghanistan day by day and the condition has become very severe for the U.S. It is reported that thousands of NATO soldiers have been killed in this war. Similarly, thousands are injured and have become physically disabled. Therefore, the Afghan war has become a serious problem and headache for the U.S. and NATO forces. According to a report by the media, the U.S. has failed to achieve its targets and goals in Afghanistan. The U.S. has spent billions of dollars in this war, but there is no result. The Taliban are still occupying 70 percent of the area of Afghanistan. This figure shows the reality of the Afghan war and defeat of the U.S. It is a fact that the U.S. is putting forth a great effort to create peace in Afghanistan, but the condition has become out of control.

After the series of protests all over the Muslim world, protests happened in Afghanistan as well, people stood up bravely and declared the action of the American film makers very hostile towards the Muslim world. Many U.S. embassies have been targeted and stormed, U.S. Flags were burnt and replace by Black flags with the Muslim words. According to a witness of the entire episode said that in the place of the U.S.  Flag, a black flag was lifted with the words “There is no God but God, and Mohammad is his messenger”. While U.S. flag was burnt and pieces were shown on camera, many believed that the filming agitated the riot up to this extend.

The movie is called “innocence of the Muslims” which has been blocked in all Muslim countries. “In Washington, the White House acknowledged that it had sought to discourage distribution of the video that sparked the protests but insisted that it had made no formal request to the video-sharing Web site YouTube, which is owned by Google. Tommy Vietor, the National Security Council spokesman, said the White House had asked YouTube “to review whether it violates their terms of use.’’ Google said this week that it had blocked access to the video in Egypt and Libya.”

“The people are going to raise their voice to show we are not silent. With the last breath in our body we will be against those who are insulting to our religion and prophet,” said Haji Samar Gul, an 80-year-old protester at the Kabul demonstration. “We shouted death to America, death to supporters of America, death to slaves of America.”

“The police did not open fire at all, we used other techniques to control the protest,” said the city police chief, Ayub Salangi, who was among those hit by the protesters.

“There were protests in four places around the city; more than 2,500 people participated. The police managed to control them, although they burned one vehicle.”

Some protestors from the village areas also joined the protest and expressed

“I joined with them because I thought it was my duty as a Muslim to condemn those who made this film,” said Waleed Khan, a 35-year-old from eastern Paktia, where insurgent violence is much higher than in the relatively secure capital.

“My relatives who are in Paktia were filled with anti-government and anti-American feeling when they heard about this film,” he added.

Police bullets also killed the protestors brutally, this presented a miserable image of the protests in Afghanistan that shaped up horribly.

“The Afghan police, who in the past have often responded to unruly crowds with gunfire, seem to have taken a much more restrained and professional approach today,” said Heather Barr, Afghanistan analyst at Human Rights Watch.

“Police reportedly did not open fire on protesters and used crowd control techniques instead. If this is true, it represents an important improvement in Afghan policing and the police leadership deserve appreciation for defusing what could have been an incident with a significant body count.”
