How Can Muslims Get Back to the Right Path?

on Sunday, September 8, 2013

The world that we are living in today is full of temptations; therefore, it is very easy to deviate from the right path. Muslims in particular, have gone so further away from the right path, that most of us are no longer practicing Muslims. We may be born into a Muslim household, but our activities, our lifestyle, our day to day dealings are not in accordance with the Islamic teachings.

There can be a number of factors which can be held responsible for leading the Muslims towards the darker side; the ever dominating western influence, the media all have played active roles in this regard. Now, our concern is what we need to do, to get back to the right path. For started, it is not going to be easy because most of the people surrounding us would be questioning why we are doing something which nobody does, any longer, they might even term us as those belonging to the ‘old fashioned’ lot. However, the thing to remember is that we are Muslims and whatever we are doing, should be done for Allah’s sake. Our aim is to please our Creator, not his creation.

Getting back to the right path means letting go all those habits and activities which are keeping you chained with the dark side. Some people may even have to let go of some friends, relatives which encourage them to do things which are not good for them. Watch the kind of people or company you hang around with, they will speak volumes about you and you are more than likely to get influenced by those people. If the company you are keeping is bad for you, then you need to cut those people loose. Otherwise, your struggle to get to the right path would not be successful.

You need to take guidance from those who are more knowledgeable than you are.  Stay in the company of those who bring out the best in you and those who inspire you to become a better person than you were yesterday. Quran is the ultimate guide book, and you cannot get to the right path without consulting it. Seek guidance from the book which was meant to provide guidance to you. Most importantly, you need to pray to Allah, asking Him to help you in your journey. Whatever happens, bad or good, happens due to Allah’s will, so you need to make a lot of dua to Allah, so that he may guide you to the right path and keep you on it, as well.

Getting back to the right path is easier said than done. It takes a lot of will power and self control to say no the temptations which are constantly surrounding us. Just remember to be strong. Seek guidance from the Quran, and try to incorporate as much of it, in your daily life and Insha’Allah you will be successful.
