Shahid Afridi: A legend both on the field and off the field

Shahid Khan Afridi who is also known as Shahid Afridi or “Boom Boom Afridi” is a Pakistani national hero who has achieved popularity due to his outstanding performances in the national cricket team. The national hero was born on 1st March, 1980 in Khyber Agency. The boy grew up to be one the greatest cricketers of all time.

Shahid Afridi started off with his career as a cricketer in the Pakistan national team on 2nd October 1996 when he made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Kenya. Soon after, he made his Test cricket debut as well against a test match with Australia on 22nd October 1998. He proved himself in the very early stage of his career when he made a record of fastest century in a one day match while playing his debut innings. He made the century in only 37 balls and the record still stands.

His talent did not just have any break; the national cricket hero also has the highest career strike rate in the entire history of international cricket. Shahid shocked the cricket fans all over the world once again when he made another record of second highest score in a single over in any ODI by achieving a score of 32 in a single over. From then onwards, due to his aggressive and smashing batting style he became popular among cricket fans all over the world and became known as “Boom Boom Afridi”. His smashing batting also earned him the record for the youngest player in the history of international one day cricket to make a century only at the age of 16 years. Shahid Afridi is not only a talented batsman but also an incredible bowler known for his unpredictable leg-spins. He primarily started off as a medium pace fast bowler and gradually ended up being a smashing batsman and an amazing leg-spinner. In his entire career he has played 27 test matches, 43 twenty20 international matches and 325 one international matches altogether to achieve a combination of a total 5000 plus score and more than 300 wickets.

Shahid Afridi has also enjoyed being the captain of the Pakistan national cricket team multiple times yet recently he made a few announcements about his retirement from international cricket after which he stepped down from captaincy.

The all time national hero has not just contributed towards the game but is also very keen towards social services for the people of his nation. Shahid Khan Afridi has recently offered his full support and contribution towards the Polio movement to keep Pakistan free from this life threatening disease. The movement was facing great hurdles in Karachi, which is a home to frequent target killing. Taliban and al-Qaeda members present in Karachi were greatly threatening the participants of this movement to cause hurdles, after which Shahid Afridi decided to step ahead and go face to face against these threatening agents. He assured his full contribution and support for the Polio movement and said that he would himself go out there and make sure that every child gets vaccine and stays safe from the disease.
